Steve Hamilton

Head Coach

Hamilton lead the Patriots to a complete transformation, bringing the overall record from 1-17 before his arrival, to a well-regarded 10-5-3 record. Coach Hamilton began his career as a soccer player as well as a track and field athlete at Roberts Wesleyan College from 1996-1999.  He was graduated in 1999 with a degree in Education and Psychology.  After graduation, he continued his playing career at a member of the United Soccer League (USL), playing for Frazier Valley in 2001. Hamilton comes to UC from Quincy, Massachusetts where he was the Head Coach at Eastern Nazarene College.  He was recognized as the Coach of the Year in 2007. He also coached ENU to their first ever home conference (TCCC) playoff game win in 2011, their first ECAC Tournament in school history in 2013, and hosted their first ever conference playoff semifinal game in 2014.  Previously, Coach Hamilton was at Genesee Community College in Batavia, New York where he went 20-16 in his two seasons there. Hamilton earned Advanced National and Premier Diplomas (2006-2011) and earned a World Football Academy Periodization Diploma in 2014.  During his previous two coaching stents, he has coached 38 All-Conference players and 1 All-Region player. When asked about his coaching philosophy, Hamilton said, "We will push the intensity during our training sessions and that will transfer into the games each week.  I want my team to give everything they have each time they are on the pitch, whether it is competing against each other in practices or other teams in games.  I also expect my team to show excellence in the classroom." John Newbery is entering his first season as a graduate assistant coach with the Patriots staff for the Womens Soccer program.  Newbery is originally from Westport, KY where he was graduated from North Oldham High School.  He then came to UC and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Biology in 2009 and a Master of Arts in Christian Studies in 2015. Previously, John had been associated with the Trinity Lutheran College Mens and Northwest University Womens Soccer programs as an assistant and goalkeeper coach. John coached at the high school level in Washington State as well at Bothell High School, Woodinville High School, and Snohomish High School.  As a player, John played at multiple different levels including college, semi-pro, and professionally.  In his four years of collegiate play at University of the Cumberlands, he was a part of a team that was consistently in the top 25 in the nation for the NAIA and ended his junior and senior year ranked nationally in the top 15.  John has played in the PASL-Premier league, a semi-pro indoor league that spans across the United States, and recently also had a stint the Tacoma Stars, a professional indoor soccer team in the PASL-Pro. Newbery currently holds a National "E" Coaching License and is currently proceeding through his National D License courses.
