John Cook

Head Coach

John Cook was named the head coach of the Pacific golf program on June 9, 2015, after spending seven seasons as the head coach at Stanislaus State. The 2026-27 season is his 12th as the Tiger head coach. In the 2025-26 season, the Tigers won two team tournament titles, including the 2025 Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational where the top three individual finishers hailed from Pacific. Cook guided Felix Bouchard to winning a pair of individual titles at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational and the El Macero Classic. During the 2024-25 season, Cook was named the West Coast Conference Coach of the Year, playing a pivotal role in guiding the Tigers to their first NCAA Tournament berth at the Urbana Regional since the 2012-13 season. The Tigers won two team tournament titles (2024 The Goat and the Leadership & Golf Collegiate Championship) and six top three finishes. Cook aided Carlos Astiazaran in his performance on the course where he earned a scoring average of 69.3 across 36 rounds, noting the lowest mark in Pacific history. Astiazaran was named WCC Co-Player of the Year for his outstanding performance in his second year. Throughout the years at the helm, Cook has led the Tigers to multiple top-10 finishes, including a fourth-place finish at the 2017 West Coast Conference Championships. Cook has also coached multiple athletes to WCC All-Academic honors and saw current Maverick Pavletich and former team member Austin Fox compete in the U.S. Amateur Open. In the 2023-24 campaign, the Tigers put together a successful season with five top-10 finishes. Pacific recorded two top-four finishes, one at the 2023 Nick Watney Invitational in Fresno and another at the Grand Canyon Invitational in Phoenix. Cook guided one of his rising golfers in Carlos Astiazaran, who recorded a team-low 71.4 stroke average, which is the second-lowest stroke average in school history. In the 2022-23 campaign, the Tigers had a pair of top 10 finishes. Pacific finished seventh of 15 teams in the Ram Masters Invitational at the Fort Collins Country Club in Colorado to open the season. In the spring, Pacific finished eighth of 16 teams at the Grand Canyon Invitational in Phoenix.  In the 2021-22 season, Cook led the Tigers as the team set the tone early in the season, finishing top 10 in the season's first two tournaments. At the Ram Masters Invitational, the team earned a second-place finish and then finished fifth at the Nick Watney Invitational the following week. The team earned three other top-10 finishes during the regular season, highlighted by placing ninth out of 23 teams at the Grand Canyon Invitational.  Cook also played an important role in the planning and construction of the Walter Chang Golf and Learning Center that's located at The Reserve at Spanos Park. Finished in February of 2020, the state-of-the-art facility is 4,200 total square feet and features coaches offices, a conference room, locker rooms, an alumni locker room, a kitchen, and three hitting bays with top-of-the-line swing analysis technology. Before his time at Pacific, Cook led Stanislaus to back-to-back California Collegiate Athletic Association championships in 2013-14 and 2014-15 while advancing to the NCAA Division II Regionals all seven seasons with four appearances in the NCAA Championship, including reaching the semifinals in 2012. Cook earned CCAA Coach of the Year honors in 2010, 2012, 2013, and 2015, and was also named the West Region Coach of the Year by the Golf Coaches Association of America in 2009. A native of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, Cooke was a student-athlete at Stanislaus from 1990 to 1993 before finishing his collegiate career at Boise State, where he earned a business management degree in 1995. Following his collegiate playing career, Cook was named assistant coach at Boise State and took over as head coach after one season. Cook was a professional golfer playing in regional and national mini-tour tournaments. He also worked for Titleist as a sales and service consultant and as an instructor at the John Jacobs Golf School at Stevenson Ranch Golf Course. Andy Moren

Assistant Coach

Andy Moren is in his fourth season as an Assistant Coach at the University of the Pacific, beginning in the 2021-22 season.   "I am extremely excited to have Andy in the Orange & Black" said head coach John Cook. "He is an experienced professional who will bring a calm demeanor to our staff and program, which will assist our athletes in remaining focused both on the course and in the classroom." Moren played a pivotal role in guiding the Tigers to their first NCAA Tournament berth at the Urbana Regional since the 2012-13 season. In the 2024-25 season, the Tigers won two team tournament titles (2024 The Goat and the Leadership & Golf Collegiate Championship) and six top three finishes.   Moren, who has served as head coach of the men's golf team at the Academy of Art University (ART U) in San Francisco in 2013, was named the PacWest Coach of the Year after guiding the Urban Knights to their first PacWest title and a NCAA Division II postseason appearance as a team in 2021.   Guiding his group to unprecedented heights, four Urban Knights were named to an All-PacWest team following their accomplishments in 2021. Additionally, Julius Kreutzer, a three-time PacWest Golfer of the Week, would be recognized as the 2021 PacWest Golfer of the Year, while Moren earned PacWest Coach of the Year, both of which were firsts in program history. These achievements marked the second consecutive year and the second time in program history that the Urban Knights had four All-PacWest selections, but it was the first time in program history that they had two First Team selections (second time with two Second Team awards). During Moren's tenure, ART U saw significant progress. Under his guidance, the men's golf team received seven All-PacWest awards and three consecutive Golf Coaches Association of America All-Academic Team honors (2015-18) in addition to 19 individual Academic All-PacWest honors. Furthermore, Oskar Frick was crowned the individual champion at the Sonoma State Fall Invitational, named to the All-Region in 2015-2016 and later qualified for the NCAA West Regional Tournament under Moren's watch, all three of which were firsts for ART U. Before joining the Urban Knights, Moren was part of a coaching staff that sent Cal State Stanislaus to the NCAA Division II West Regionals in Dupont, Wash. Battling until the end, the Warriors finished one-under par as a team, only seven strokes out of the third spot that would have sent them to the finals. Ultimately, he graduated from Stanislaus with a degree in Political Science and recently earned a Master of Arts in Kinesiology from Saint Mary's College with a concentration in Sports Management. While with the Warriors, Moren won four tournaments from 2005 to 2008, including the Stanislaus Buzzini Invitational twice (2005 and 2007), the Dennis Rose Invitational (2007), and the Drake Invitational (2008). Additionally, he was named to the GCAA All-Region Team three times (2005, 2007, 2008), the All-CCAA First Team in all four years, earned the Phil Mickelson NCAA Division II Freshman of the Year Award in 2005 and was named to the GCAA All-American Team for Division II in 2005 as well. As a professional golfer, Moren won the Golden State Tour at Morgan Run Country Club in 2011.
