Andy Smith
Head Coach
Smith doubled the Tigers' win total in two years as the 2014 Tigers posted the program's highest win total since 2005. In 2015, Pacific surpassed that with an 11-8 record. The Tigers won the West Division of the America East Conference with that mark and made the second round of the America East Tournament, where they fell to eventual conference champion Albany. In 2016, Smith coached a Tigers team that broke a number of scoring records for the Tigers. Those Tigers scored the most goals in program history and had the three highest-scoring games in Pacific history with 12-0, 11-3, and 8-2 victories. Pacific made the America East Conference championship game that year as well, taking home eight comference awards once again. Pacific won 16 games that year, the most in program history. Smith coached the America East Defensive Player of the Year in Savannah Burns in 2015. Pacific had eight athletes take home conference awards that year and tied the program's previous record for games won in a single season with 11. Smith was also instrumental in the completion of the Tigers' facility, as after years of playing on a grass surface or home games off campus, the program moved to Pacific Field Hockey Turf for the 2014 season, and hosted the 2014 NorPac Championship. Smith, a former member of the US Women's National Team coaching staff, joined the Bears after spending 10 seasons on the Dartmouth staff, including six seasons as associate head coach under Amy Fowler for the Big Green. In his time at Dartmouth, from 2002 to 2011, Smith helped guide the Big Green to five top-three finishes in the Ivy League Conference. Smith has served as the coaching director of the Olympic Development camps for U.S. Field Hockey in June 2003 and 2004. Smith also was named to the coaching staff of the U.S. U-20 women's national team in April 2003 and served as a drag flick coach for the U.S. women's national team. In 2008, Smith was named an assistant coach for the 2008 New England High Performance Training squad. Prior to joining the Big Green coaching staff, Smith, a native of Doncaster, England, rose quickly on the coaching ladder in Great Britain. Beginning as a colts coach in Doncaster, he quickly won titles at the U-9, 12, 14, 16 and 18 levels with the Beeston Hockey Club. In 2002, Smith became the first coach to lead U-18 and U-16 teams to state titles in the same year. As a player, Smith has traveled to many parts of the world, including two times with the national English Hockey Association mixed team as well as claiming honors at U-18, U-21 and full/state county levels. He has played at the top level in England, Australia and Austria. Smith holds the highest coaching diploma in his native country and is one of a handful of U.S.-based coaches to hold a High Performance Coaching Certificate from the FIH. Andy resides in Stockton with his wife Jess and their two children - daughter Ellie (born in 2011) and son Owen (born in 2014). GCC Water Polo Semifinals

Chris Fry
Assistant Coach
Fry also provided performance analysis for the Welsh Football Trust an organization aimed at developing soccer players in Wales, covering the Wales U16 Girls Football team for a two-match series against Finland, and the Wales U15 Boys team for two training camps. Fry graduated with a Bachelors in Sport and Exercise Science from Cardiff Metropolitan University in July 2012, and earned a Masters in Performance Analysis from Cardiff Metropolitan in July of 2014. His Masters thesis and dissertation was on the effect of score-line and team quality on hockey performance, showing that international teams play differently according to whether they are - at the time in the match - currently winning, drawing or losing. As a player for the mens field hockey first team at Cardiff Metropolitan, Fry helped the squad to the West Conference Cup, which earned the team a promotion into BUCS Premier South the joint highest university league in the United Kingdom. Laura Spellman
Assistant Coach
Spellman's primary responsibilities include a focus on U.S. recruiting and the training and development of the Tigers' defense. Spellman came to Pacific after a four-year playing career at Cal where she played for coach Andy Smith as a senior in 2012. Playing in the Bears' defense, Spellman was an integral part of a staunch backfield that helped lead Cal to the NorPac championship in 2011. Throughout the year, Spellman and her defensive mates allowed just over 1.6 goals per game en route to a 16-4 record and berth in the NCAA tournament. In addition to their championship in 2011, the Bears took home a pair of runner-up finishes in each of Spellman's first two years on the field at Cal. Overall, Spellman finished her career as a defender with two goals and seven assists including netting one game-winner for the Bears. Her senior season, Spellman notched a career-best five assists, fourth best on the team despite playing out of the backfield. In addition to her play on the field, Spellman was named a NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad member for her work in the classroom. Spellman is originally from Gilroy, Calif. where she prepped at Gilroy High School. She is the younger sister of Tiger alum Amanda Spellman who played four years at Pacific from 2008-11.
