Steve Gulley
Head Coach
Gulley is in his 16th season as head track & field and cross-country coach at The University of Tulsa. During his tenure, Gulley has built one of the top programs in its conference, while moving the Tulsa men's cross-country team into one of the nation's top teams. Gulley has coached 12 Tulsa teams to conference championships, while earning conference Coach of the Year accolades 11 times. The Tulsa men's cross-country team has won seven league titles, including one in the American Athletic Conference, five Conference USA crowns and one in the Western Athletic Conference. Gulley has led the women's cross-country team to four conference championships, including one in The American, two C-USA crowns and one in the WAC. The men's indoor track team also claimed the 2012 C-USA Indoor Championship. Under Gulley's guidance, the Golden Hurricane has qualified 50 student-athletes for the NCAA Championships and garnered 21 All-America honors during that time. These honors have come from Fride Vullum in the 5,000 meters (2001), Charlotte Sanderson in the 10,000 meters (2001), Shana Robinson in the 200 meters (2003), Melanie Hardy in the 800 meters (2005), Alex Becker in cross country (2007), the 3,000 meters (2007), the 5,000 meters (2007, 2009, 2010), and the 10,000 meters (2009), John Beattie in cross country (2008), Mark Davidson in the mile run (2009), Chris O'Hare in the mile run (2011, 2012) the 1,500 meters (2011), cross country (2012), and one-mile (2013), Bryce Robinson in the 60-meter dash (2013) and the 200 meters (2015), Paula Whiting in the 5,000 meters (2011), Carl Stones in the steeplechase (2012), and Marc Scott in cross country (2014) and the 10,000 meters (2015). O'Hare became Tulsa's first national champion when he won the mile run at the 2012 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship. During his tenure, Gulley has coached 80 individual conference champions, combining The American, C-USA and the WAC, and helped four athletes qualify to represent their countries at the World Championships. In 2014, both Golden Hurricane mens and womens cross country teams claimed the American Athletic Conference championships the first for TU as a member of the league. The Hurricane placed 14 runners on the all-conference teams, including individual mens medalist Marc Scott. The TU coaches earned Coaching Staff of the Year on both the mens and womens sides. During the spring of 2015, Tulsa finished second at The American Indoor Track & Field Championships, just one point shy of Houston. Bryce Robinson was named Mens Track Most Outstanding Performer, TU shared Coaching Staff of the Year honors with Houston, and the Hurricane claimed eight individual event championships. The Golden Hurricane men finished second at the outdoor championships as well, with Robinson once again taking home mens MOP honors. TU landed six individual event champions, and eventually qualified three athletes Robinson, Scott and Simon Greiner for the NCAA Championships. In the fall of 2013, Tulsa won C-USA Cross-Country Championships for both the men and women, while the men's team won the league title for the fourth consecutive season and advanced to the NCAA Championships for the third straight year. O'Hare was named the C-USA Outstanding Senior of the Meet and won the NCAA Midwest Regional. In 2012-13, the Hurricane men's team won the C-USA Cross Country title and finished seventh at the NCAA Championship, while the men also placed second at the C-USA Indoor Track Championships. O'Hare, in the mile run, and sophomore Bryce Robinson, in the 60-meter dash, earned All-America status during the indoor season. O'Hare placed seventh and Robinson finished sixth at the NCAA Championships. During the outdoor campaign, the Tulsa men claimed a third-place performance at the C-USA Championships. The 2011-12 campaign was a banner year as the cross-country team brought home a second straight C-USA title, while the men's track & field squad won its first C-USA Indoor Championship after finishing as runner-up the previous two indoor seasons. O'Hare became Tulsa's first NCAA National Champion as he won the mile crown at the NCAA meet. Carl Stones earned All-America status in the 3,000-meter steeplechase during the outdoor season. Tulsa athletes won 12 individual track & field C-USA champions. A year earlier in 2010-11, the 2010 cross-country season saw both the men's and women's programs capture conference championships, it was the first C-USA title for the women and the second for the men's team. The women also qualified for the NCAA Championships for the first time in school history. O'Hare finished runner-up at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship in the mile and placed 13th in the 1,500 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships to garner two All-America honors. O'Hare was also named the C-USA Indoor Track Athlete of the Year. Paula Whiting closed out her track career with an All-America performance in the 5,000 meters during the NCAA outdoor championships. During the 2010 track campaign, the Hurricane had one All-American, sent three individuals to the NCAA Championships and captured 11 individual C-USA titles. Alex Becker earned her sixth All-America honor with her fifth-place finish in the 5,000 meters at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Justin Duncan and Paula Whiting each qualified for the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, while Duncan finished 10th in the 10,000 meters and Whiting placed 15th in the 5,000 meters. In the 2008-09 season, Tulsa produced three All-Americans and eight individual C-USA champions in track, as Gulley sent total of seven athletes to the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships. Mark Davidson participated in the mile run and Jennifer Mace ran in the 400 meters at the indoor championships. Becker (5,000 and 10,000 meters), Jennifer Mace (400 meters), April Montgomery (400-meter hurdles), John Beattie (10,000 meters) and Justin Duncan (1,500 meters) all represented Tulsa at the outdoor championships. Beattie won the conference championship in the 5,000 meters during the indoor season and the 10,000 meters during the outdoor campaign. Davidson was the C-USA champion in the mile and the indoor 3,000 meters. Becker (outdoor 5,000 and 10,000 meters) and Davidson (mile run) earned All-America honors in 2009. Becker placed fifth in the 10,000 and sixth in the 5,000, while Davidson turned in an eighth-place finish. The 2008 men's cross country team set several school records, while winning its first C-USA title and placing 13th at the NCAA Championships. Beattie became the first male cross-country athlete to earn All-America status after finishing 29th at the national meet. The men's team achieved a USTFCCCA national ranking of No. 15 and was nationally-ranked for seven consecutive weeks. Beattie won the 2008 C-USA Cross Country Men's Individual Championship and was named the C-USA Male Cross Country Athlete of the Year. The Hurricane placed a total of 11 athletes on the men's and women's all-C-USA teams. In the 2007-08 campaign, Tulsa garnered five individual C-USA champions, qualified two athletes for the NCAA Championships and had two runners compete in the IAAF World Cross Country Championships. Davidson won the C-USA Indoor Championship in the 3,000 meters and the outdoor title in the 1,500. Davidson also ran in 1,500 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, finishing in 14th place. Lewis Timmins won the conference indoor title in the mile run. Becker captured the C-USA Indoor Championship in the 3,000 with a league record time of 9:30.44, and qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships, but did not run due to injury. Becker along with Beattie ran at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships representing Canada and Great Britain, respectively. The 2007 men's cross country team earned the first team berth in school history to the NCAA Cross Country Championships. Becker was named 2007 C-USA Female Athlete of the Year and John Beattie earned C-USA Newcomer of the Year accolades. The women's cross country team also earned its highest finish in school history at the 2007 NCAA Midwest Regional, while Becker earned the school's first cross-country All-America honors at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. It didn't take Gulley long to see the direction the Hurricane cross-country and track & field teams were headed upon his arrival in 2000. The Tulsa women captured the school's first conference championship in 2001, and the men followed that with a WAC team title in 2003. Gulley came to Tulsa from Baylor University where he served as head cross country coach, and assistant track and field coach. In 12 seasons (1988-2000) as the head coach for cross-country, Gulley produced one of Baylor's most successful athletic programs. His teams won six conference titles, made seven NCAA Championship appearances, had seven individual league champions, made seven NCAA Cross Country Championship team appearances and had 18 All-Americans and three Academic All-Americans. He was named the Southwest Conference Coach of the Year eight times and the District VI Coach of the Year once. Gulley was the first coach in SWC history to win both the men's and women's cross country titles in the same year (1992). Of the women's seven NCAA championship team appearances, their best came in 1998 with an eighth-place finish. His teams also placed 10th (1991), 17th (1992), 18th (1990 and 1992) and 22nd (1989 and 1994) nationally. Gulley was named Southwest Conference Women's Coach of the Year five consecutive times (1989-93) and again in 1995. He received the same honor on the men's side in 1992 and 1994. On the track & field side, Gulley helped in the development of 79 All-Americans, including 50 male All-Americans and 29 female All-Americans. He coached 14 top-10 finishers at the NCAA Championships on the men's side with two more top-10 finishers on the women's side. There were three times that Gulley coached three-sport All-Americans in cross-country, indoor and outdoor track & field. Gulley arrived at Baylor as a graduate assistant coach in 1985 after graduating with a bachelor's degree in Education from Northeastern State (Okla.) University and earning three letters on the NSU track team.

Clif Mitchell
Assistant Coach
Mitchell is in his fifth year as an assistant track & field coach for the Golden Hurricane. Mitchell coaches the sprints, hurdles, jumps and relay teams. Tulsa's sprinters and hurdlers have seen a marked improvement since Mitchell joined the coaching staff prior to the 2011-12 season. Mitchell's experience and coaching ability has helped skyrocket a number of Hurricane athletes to top performances in conference and regional competition. Mitchell coached sprinter Bryce Robinson to the indoor 200-meter and 400-meter dash and the outdoor 100-meter and 200-meter dash titles at the American Athletic Conference Championships. In addition to earning mens Most Outstanding Performer of the Meet honors for both indoor and outdoor championships, Robinson posted a 9.99 100m time at the outdoor finals, ranking as one of the top-10 fastest times in the world in 2015. In 2014, Robinson was an All-American in the 100 and 200-meter dash Outdoors and ran wind legal, school record times of 10.18 and 20.48, respectively. Robinson also qualified for the USATF Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Katherine Camp, who won her 3rd (indoor 800m) and 4th (outdoor 800m) Conference USA 800-meter Championships and was an All-American at the 800 meter dash, finishing 12th at NCAAs. Her personal record of 2:04.49 set at the Peyton Jordan meet at Stanford, is the outdoor school record. Camp was selected to the New Zealand National team, where she was in the relay pool for the Commonwealth Games in Scotland. Audrey Jean-Baptiste set a school record of 53.07 at the Canadian National Championships last summer. Audrey was selected by Athletics Canada to compete in the Commonwealth games, where she was a semi-finalist in the 400m dash, and was the lead off leg for the Canadian 4x4 team. In the 2012-13 season, Mitchell tutored the school's first-ever freshman All-American as Bryce Robison placed sixth in the 60-meter dash at the NCAA Indoor Championships, while also racking up a win in the 60 meters at the Conference USA Indoor Championships and finishing as the runner-up in the 200 meters. Another freshman, John Teeters, ran a school record time of 10.27 at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor West Regional. The men's 4x100 relay team also qualified for regional competition with a school record 40.38 during the outdoor season. On the women's side, Mitchell coached the 2013 C-USA Indoor and Outdoor 800 Meter Champion Katherine Camp, while Caroline Schuster qualified for regional competition in the 400 meters with a time of 54.25. During his first year at Tulsa, Mitchell coached Julian Frazier qualified for the NCAA Regional in the 400-meter dash and was the C-USA runner-up in the indoor 400-meters. Mitchell also oversaw the men's 4x400 relay squads that shattered school records at both the C-USA Indoor and Outdoor Championships. Mitchell returned to Tulsa after spending three years as an assistant coach with the UMKC cross country/track and field program, where he was the primary cross country/distance coach for the Kangaroos. At UMKC, Mitchell had two student-athletes break school records during the 2009 indoor season. Larry Hill broke the school record in the 600-yard run and 800-meter run, while Cosmas Ayabei broke the 3,000-meter record. Mitchell coached Ayabei to two medals at The Summit League Indoor Championship, a silver medal in the 5,000 meters and a bronze in the 3,000 meters. He had five student-athletes land on the UMKC all-time top-five performance list in eight events. Following the 2009 outdoor season, Mitchell saw Aubrey Frederking break the UMKC school record in the 1,500-meter run. He also coached Hill to a bronze medal in the 800 meters at The Summit League Outdoor Championship. Mitchell had two student-athletes land on the UMKC top-five performance list. During the 2009 cross-country season, Mitchell coached Ayabei to a third-place finish at the Summit League Cross Country Championship. Ayabei earned first team all-league honors and was named the Newcomer of the Championship, a honor that has not been bestowed to a Kangaroo since the 1999 season. Ayabei ran his way into the UMKC record books, posting the fifth top performance in the men's 8K and ranking as the fourth top performer in the 8K. Ayabei is Mitchell's fourth student-athlete to land on the top performer and top performance list. Mitchell coached Alex Lopez to a second place finish in the 800 meters at The Summit League Indoor Championships, earning Lopez all-league honors. Lopez also broke the UMKC school record in the event at the Iowa State Classic with the career-best time of 1:54.23. Mitchell had 40 student-athletes run personal bests during the 2008-09 indoor season. Following the 2009 outdoor season, Mitchell had three student-athletes land on the UMKC all-time top-five performance list, Lopez (800 meters), Laban Mutai (5,000 meters) and Aubrey Frederking (1,500 meters). In the 2008 cross country season, Mitchell coached Laban Mutai to a ninth place finish at The Summit League Championships, earning him Second Team all-League honors. Mutai ranks as UMKC's ninth top performer in the men's 8K and third top performer in the men's 10K. While at KU, Mitchell assisted head coach Stanley Redwine with the day-to-day operations with the Jayhawk track and field programs. He also was a graduate assistant for the Kansas Relays Meet Director, where he was responsible for several aspects for the nationally-known relays. Mitchell rounded out his career at KU after graduating from The University of Tulsa. With the Golden Hurricane, Mitchell was a two-time WAC all-conference selection in the 800-meter run and a three-time bronze medalist as a member of the 4x400-meter relay. He also was the 800-meter champion at the Missouri Relays. Upon graduation from Tulsa, Mitchell closed out his eligibility at KU in 2007. During the indoor season, Mitchell was a Big 12 all-conference selection in the 600-yard run. As a prep, Mitchell was a Track and Field News High School all-American in the 4x400-meter relay in 2001, and he was a part of the 4x400-meter relay that set a Oklahoma state meet record. The two-time state champion (4x400; 4x800) was also the Texas Relays Champion in the 4x800-meter relay in 2002. Additionally, Mitchell was a member of the cross-country state championship team at Edmond Memorial High School in 2000. Mitchell, who is a USATF Level 2 certified coach for distance, earned his bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science from The University of Tulsa in 2006. He received a master's degree in exercise science from the University of Kansas in July 2011. He is married to former Golden Hurricane track & field athlete April Mitchell. University of Tulsa alumnus Clif Mitchell is in his fifth year as an assistant track & field coach for the Golden Hurricane. Mitchell coaches the sprints, hurdles, jumps and relay teams.

Caleb Seal
Assistant Coach
Seal is in his third year as an assistant track and field coach for The University of Tulsa. Seal has been among the top throws coaches at the high school level in the country and founded the USATF Seal Throwing Club in 2005. His club focuses on instruction and development in the discus, shot put and hammer for all competing age groups. The Childress, Texas native has developed and coached multiple Oklahoma high school state champions, recording 35 state titles, including 26 state discus champions and nine shot put champions. Under his guidance, 12 Oklahoma athletes have established eight state records, including the overall state record-holder in the girls' discus. Seal has also coached five more athletes who hold class state meet records in Oklahoma. In addition to his athletes garnering state honors, Seal has coached two high school national champions, two USA Today All-Americans and has had an athlete represent the United States in the Inaugural 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore throwing the discus. Seal is a certified throws coach and staff member at the John Godina World Throws Camps. He has had years of mentorship under Olympic Throws Coach Mac Wilkins. He earned his bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Sam Houston State University, while also competing as a thrower on the track and field team. Seal was a three-time Texas state qualifier in throws during his prep career. Seal and his wife, Tiffany, have three children, Gavin, Payton and Haven and reside in Owasso, Okla. One of the nation's premier throws coaches, Caleb Seal is in his third year as an assistant track and field coach for The University of Tulsa.

Taylor Gulley
Assistant Coach
Gulley is in his fourth year as an assistant track & field/cross country coach for The University of Tulsa. He joined the Tulsa coaching staff as a full-time coach in the fall of 2012. Gulley assists with coaching the cross-country team, while also coaches the middle-distance and distance runners for the Hurricane track team. With Gulley on the coaching staff, Tulsa has won both the mens and womens American Athletic Conference cross country championships in 2014, and three Conference USA Cross Country Championships, winning back-to-back men's titles in 2012 and 2013 and tying for the C-USA women's crown in 2013. In addition to the men's team winning the 2012 C-USA title, the Hurricane also placed seventh at the NCAA Championships that year, while producing All-American Chris O'Hare. On the women's side, the cross-country team finished fifth at the NCAA Midwest Regional, the second-best finish in school history. In 2012, Tulsa had eight men's athletes earn all-conference honors, while seven women received all-Conference USA accolades as well. For track & field, Tulsa landed three indoor champions and four outdoor champions in its first season in The American. TU had three indoor champions at the C-USA Championships on the women's side and four C-USA medalists on the men's side in 2012-13. Gulley also coached two C-USA outdoor individual champions for women and one for the men that same season. Prior to his appointment as a full-time coach, Gulley spent two years as a student assistant coach with the Golden Hurricane team. He assisted in home meet management, generated and maintained the recruiting database and assisted with the set-up of official recruiting visits. He also spent one year on the athletic facilities maintenance staff at Tulsa, where he worked with venue set-up for basketball, volleyball and soccer. Gulley earned his bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science from Tulsa in May 2012. Taylor Gulley is in his fourth year as an assistant track & field/cross country coach for The University of Tulsa. He joined the Tulsa coaching staff as a full-time coach in the fall of 2012. Gulley assists with coaching the cross-country team, while also coaches the middle-distance and distance runners for the Hurricane track team.
