University of West Georgia Men's Basketball

Young, the match is near perfection. In the spring of 2005, longtime assistant coach David Draper left the program and head coach Ed Murphy didn't have to look far for his replacement. He just looked down the bench and there was Young, a smart former player who had been the graduate assistant for West Georgia basketball for the past two seasons. Young spent two years under the tutelage of Murphy, then was retained when current head coach Michael Cooney took the reigns. Being a guard in the Gulf South Conference, Young has been able use his knowledge and love of the game to help five guards grow into All-Conference caliber players. Young was a member of the Braves' squad that went to the Elite Eight in 2002 and was named All-Gulf South Conference in both of his years in a West Georgia uniform. He is a 2002 graduate of the University of West Georgia with a B.S. in Sport Management. He is married to the former Jill Zehr, who teaches in the Carroll County School System and was formerly the volleyball coach at Central High School. The couple has two children: a son Max and daughter Molly. On any team, having a former player as part of the coaching staff can be a great advantage.
