Brooks succeeded , who stepped aside from the posts earlier that spring. Brooks then oversaw the transition of Women's Track & Field back into the sponsored sports at UWG, and in the spring of 2016, that turned into his biggest accomplishment in competition to date. He had six different runners qualify for nationals in that spring, won the first ever Gulf South Conference Women's Track & Field championship and saw freshman Ashley Davis reach the NCAA National Championships in May.  Brooks, a native of Powder Springs, was an outstanding performer during his running career at West Georgia. As a freshman he was a member of the UWGs 1999 GSC Championship team, and was team captain during his senior season in 2004. I am very proud to be a part of the West Georgia family, said Brooks. We have an excellent tradition in cross country here, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to continue and build on that tradition. West Georgia's women's program flourished with the first full recruiting class under Brooks' guidance in 2011, as freshmen Carina Nieto and Casey Brown each earned All-Gulf South Conference honors. The men's program stayed steady, with junior Jake Hudson taking All-GSC accolades. Freshmen newcomers Aaron Balkum and Isaiah Bell each had a solid rookie season under Brooks and will be contenders in the future for the Wolves. In his first year at the helm of the UWG harriers, Brooks hit the ground running, helping to continue on the success of his predecessors. On the men's side, he helped to mold Jake Hudson and Dan Moffitt back into contenders in the conference.   Brooks is a 2004 graduate of West Georgia, earning his bachelors degree in Sport Management. He also earned his masters degree from UWG in Physical Education and Health in 2008. But Kirwa and the Wolves took things a step further, taking the top five spots for a perfect score. Kirwa won the event, his first of two individual championships on the year. The Kenyan ended up as an All-Region performer at the conclusion of the season. But Kirwa was not the only freshman who showed promise, as Zack Hill also finished among the top-10 at nearly every meet and ended up as the GSC Freshman of the Year at the Gulf South Conference Championships. Laushey continued her dominance in 2014, as she finished nearly every meet of the year at second or better. She won the UWG Invitational in October, become the first UWG woman to win a home meet.
