Chip Schneider
Head Coach
Chip Schneider enters his 23rd season as head coach for Men’s Track and Field and 19th season for Women’s Track & Field in 2025. He also serves as the Director of Cross Country. The Blugolds have been among Division III's elite track & field programs under Schneider's guidance, winning five team national championships since 2015. The Blugold men have been crowned indoor national champions three times (2015, 2016, 2022) and outdoor national champions twice (2019, 2022) with Schneider leading the program. In all, the Blugold men and women have placed in the top 10 at the national championships 32 times with Schneider in charge. Schneider's teams have produced 37 individual national champions, five relay national champions, more than 200 individual All-Americans, more than 50 All-American relay squads, more than 170 conference champions and nearly 150 school record holders. Schneider is a four-time U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division III Coach of the Year, earning Indoor Coach of the Year honors in 2015 and 2016 and Outdoor Coach of the Year honors in 2019 and 2022. He is also a three-time winner of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Women's Outdoor Coach of the Year Award (2008, 2017, 2019) in addition to winning WIAC Women's Indoor Coach of the Year once (2008). Schneider was also the NCAA Midwest Region Men's Indoor Head Coach of the Year in 2020. Schneider earned his bachelor’s degree at UW-Platteville in 1995. He was the national champion in the long jump and in the 400-meter hurdles, eight-time individual All-American, four-time UW-Platteville track and field most valuable athlete, and three-time captain. In 1994, he was named the UW-Platteville Student Athlete of the Year. He also earned Wisconsin State University Conference (WSUC) Academic All-Conference honors. Schneider was inducted into the UW-Platteville Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013 and was also named to the WIAC All-Time Track and Field Team. Before coming to UW-Eau Claire, Schneider was a graduate assistant coach at UW-La Crosse. He coached hurdles, long jump, triple jump, and sprints for the 2002 men’s indoor and outdoor NCAA Division III National Champions. He coached for two seasons at UW-Platteville, once in 1995-1996 and again in 1999-2001 for sprints, hurdles, and jumps. Schneider was a lead instructor at the University of Wisconsin Learn-By-Doing Camp between 2007-2009 in hurdles and sprints. Chip and his wife Joanna reside in Eau Claire. They are the parents of Drake Schneider, an NCAA Division 1 Track & Field All-American (400m hurdles) and graduate of Montana State University.

Paul Conlin

Paul Conlin is in his 30th season as an assistant men’s and women’s track and field coach at UW-Eau Claire. Conlin oversees all throwing events for the Blugolds. At UW-Eau Claire, Conlin has coached numerous national meet qualifiers, 63 NCAA Division III All-Americans in the throws, including 12 National Champions, 13 National Runners-up, 1 USA Olympic Trial qualifier and perhaps even more importantly, 4 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans. As an athlete, Conlin was a four-time Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) conference champion, five-time All-American, and a three-time National Champion, winning both the 1992 Division III indoor and outdoor shot put crowns as a student-athlete at UW-Platteville. He still holds the Pioneer indoor shot put record of 60' 3 3/4" (18.34 m) (10th All-Time NCAA DIII Indoor) and the Pioneer outdoor shot put record of 62' 7 1/4" (19.08 m). Conlin's throw of 62' 7 1/4" was the WIAC conference outdoor records for over 25 years and currently places him seventh on the All-Time NCAA Division III outdoor performance list. Other career highlights for Conlin include hitting an Olympic Trials qualifying mark in 1992 and receiving a national ranking of 10th in 1993 by Track and Field News. That same year, Conlin placed second at the Drake Relays, fourth at the Olympic Festival and 11th at the USA Track and Field Championships. Coach Conlin was inducted into the UW-Platteville Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010 and was named to the WIAC All-Time Track and Field Team. In addition, Conlin was inducted into the USTFCCCA Athlete Hall of Fame in 2021 and was inducted into the WIAC Athletic Hall of Fame in 2022. Prior to Eau Claire Conlin had coached one year at La Crosse Logan High School where he helped the Rangers win a conference championship. At the conference meet the Rangers swept the throws by placing 1, 2, 3 in the discus throw and the shot put as well as qualifying three athletes for Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) State High School Track and Field Championships in the throws. Conlin currently works for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, where he serves as the Project Development Chief Engineer for the Northwest Transportation Regional Office. Paul is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Wisconsin. Paul and his wife (Wendy) reside in Eau Claire with his son Ryan (18) and his daughter Ashlynn (10)

Seth Hoyer

Seth Hoyer enters his 20th year coaching at UW-Eau Claire. Hoyer, a UW-Eau Claire graduate, competed for the track and field team while a student at UW-Eau Claire. In his time coaching at UW-Eau Claire the men and women sprinters have broken every sprint and sprint relay school record. This includes 60m, 100m, 200m indoor, 200m outdoor, 400m indoor, 400m outdoor, 4x100 and 4x400 indoor and outdoor.

Shawn McMahon
Assistant Coach
Shawn McMahon begins his 12th year as horizontal jumps coach for the Blugolds and his 18th as coach at the NCAA Division III level. McMahon is a middle school special education teacher and lives in Eau Claire with his wife, Ali, and their son, Charlie, who was born in March of 2022. A former head coach at Saint Mary's University and assistant at UW-Stout, McMahon has been part of the coaching staff for all five UWEC Men's National Championship Teams. As assistant coach to both the men's and women's programs, McMahon's long and triple jumpers at UWEC have qualified for twelve national championship meets with four of them winning All-American Honors. Many of McMahon's jumpers appear in the top five of the program's all-time performance lists including holding 5 of the 8 school records in the horizontal jumps. McMahon received his bachelor's degree in biology from UW-La Crosse where he was an all-conference performer in the long and triple jump and member of the 1997 indoor and outdoor national championship teams. He received his master's degree in 2004 from Saint Mary's University and completed his special education licensure through UW-Eau Claire in 2014.

Roger Steen enters his 11th season as an Assistant Throws Coach for the UW-Eau Claire men's and women's track and field teams in 2025-26. Steen has been a part of the Blugold Track and Field program since fall of 2011 when he was a student-athlete himself. He was part of the 2015 Indoor national championship team; which was a first in the program’s history. Steen is a two-time Division III national champion in the shot put and a five-time All-American. Steen was also an athlete on the UW-Eau Claire football team and was an All-WIAC player in 2014 . He graduated in 2016 with a double major in Business Administration and Kinesiology. Steen has assisted in coaching Blugolds to seven shot put national championships and two discus national titles. He has helped coach national champions Yakob Ekoue, Catie Fobbe, David Kornack, Alex Mess and Erica Oawster. During Steen's time at Eau Claire, the Blugolds have earned 30 All-America honors in throwing events. He has been a part of four men’s Division III national championship teams. Steen has continued to pursue his shot put career post-graduation and has established himself as one of the top Americans in the event. He was the runner-up in shot put at the 2024 USA Indoor Track and Field Championships and earned a spot on the U.S. team for the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships, where he finished 13th. He has competed at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials three times, fighting for a spot at the Olympics in 2016, 2021 and 2024. He finished sixth at the 2024 Trials, ninth in 2021 and 20th in 2016. Steen placed fifth at the 2022 Outdoor USA Track and Field Championships. Steen then qualified for and won the 2022 North American Central American Championships (NACAC) in the Bahamas. He has also competed on the professional Diamond League circuit. Steen is the farthest throwing shot-putter in history to have competed as a Division III collegiate athlete. His personal best is 22.08 meters.

Marcie Schwamberger

Marcie Schwamberger enters her 19th year as an Assistant Cross Country and Track & Field Coach at UW-Eau Claire in 2025. Schwamberger has been an assistant track and field/cross country coach at UWEC since the fall of 2007. She has helped coach two national championship teams in cross country and five in track & field. Additionally, she has helped coach four individual national champions and one national championship relay, plus several All-Americans. Schwamberger graduated from UW-Stevens Point in 2002 with a bachelor's degree in sociology and earned a K-12 Physical Education degree from Millikin University in 2006. She competed in cross country and track and field at UW-Stevens Point, where she qualified for the NCAA Championships multiple times. Schwamberger teaches physical education in the Eau Claire Area School District. She is married to Dan Schwamberger, who is the Head Men's and Women's Cross Country Coach at UW-Eau Claire.

Dan Schwamberger enters his 19th season in the 2025-26 school year as the head coach of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men’s and women’s cross country teams. Schwamberger is also the middle/long distance coach for the men’s and women’s track and field teams. Schwamberger has coached two national championship teams and one national champion individually, having guided the Blugold women's cross country team to a Division III national championship in 2009 and the men's team to a national title in 2015. He was named the NCAA Division III Women's Coach of the Year in 2009 and Men's Coach of the Year in 2015. His women's teams have competed at the national championships in 15 of his 17 seasons, placing in the top 25 nationally 13 times. The Blugold women were national runners-up in 2017 and also placed in the top five in 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2018. Fourteen women have earned 16 All-America honors under Schwamberger's guidance. The Blugold men have six finishes in the top 10 at nationals since 2012, including two in the top five. With Schwamberger at the helm, nine men have earned 16 All-America honors, including an individual national championship by Darrin Lau in 2017. Schwamberger's women's teams have won nine Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships and produced three individual conference champions. His men's squads have won three WIAC titles and a pair of individual conference crowns. Both the men's and women's cross country teams have excelled in the classroom during Schwamberger's time leading the programs. The Blugold women have earned a team cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher for the past seventeen years, including the 2009 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic team of the year award. The men have earned a team cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for the past sixteen years, including the 2015 USTFCCCA All-Academic team of the year award. On the track, Schwamberger coaches the men's and women's middle- and long-distance crews, which have won eight individual/relay national titles, earned 67 All-America awards, won 42 individual/relay conference championships and set 35 school records. Schwamberger earned his IAAF level V / USATF level III endurance certification in November of 2019 and the USTFCCCA strength & conditioning specialist certification in December of 2014. Prior to UW Eau-Claire, he was the assistant cross country and track & field coach at UW-Platteville from 2004-2007. He was a graduate assistant track & field coach at Loras College from 2002-2004, where he earned his master’s degree in physical education. Schwamberger earned his bachelor’s degree in Forest Management from UW-Stevens Point, where he competed for four seasons in cross country and track. He was a two-time All-American in cross country and five-time track All-American, including an NCAA National Title in the indoor 5K. In addition, Schwamberger was a GTE First Team Academic All-American in track and the WIAC scholar athlete award winner in cross country. In October 2012, Schwamberger was inducted into the UW-Stevens Point Athletic Hall of Fame. Dan is married to Marcie, who works full-time in the Eau Claire School District as a middle school physical education teacher and coaches cross country and track & field at UW-Eau Claire.
