Tonja Englund

Head Coach

Englund enters her 17th season as head womens basketball coach in 2016-2017 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The Bludoglds finish of their 2015-2016 season tied for fourth in the WIAC with a 8-6 record, and a 14-13 record overall. Coming into the 2016-2017 season Englunds 284 wins ranks fourth most in WIAC history. In 2015-16 Englund became UW-Eau Claire's winningest women's basketball coach. Englund has four WIAC Championships under her belt (2001,2003,2008,2012) as well as five NCAA tournament appearances. Englunds 2002-2003 season holds the schools single season record for number of wins (32-2), earning her WIAC Coach of the Year and NCAA Russell Athletic/WBCA National Coach of Year. The Blugolds took 3rd place in the nation that year. In her time UW-Eau Claire, Englund has coached 22 All-WIAC first team players, 10 All-Defensive, five WIAC Players of the Year, 16 All-Region, six All-Americans, and five Jostens National Player of Year Finalists. Several of Englunds players have gone on to pursue coaching careers at the high school, collegiate, and professional levels. Englund was a highly decorated high school and collegiate player growing up in St. Paul, MN and starring for Hill-Murray High School, the University of Wyoming and the University of St. Thomas. She was a full scholarship player at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, a two year starter, WAC All-Conference and WAC All-tournament as a freshman. In 1991 she led the University of St. Thomas to a National Championship, earning All-Final Four Team Honors. She was All-MIAC, MIAC Co-Player of the Year, D3 Basketball News All-American, and Kodak All-American (HM) 1992. In 2015, she was inducted into the prestigious Hill-Murray Athletic Hall of Fame. When she wasnt on the court Englund earned her bachelors degree in physical education and coaching and her masters degree in athletic administration from the University of St. Thomas. Prior to UW-Eau Claire, Englund taught K-12 physical education and was the Roseville Area Varsity Girls Basketball Coach for six years. Englund is a Senior Lecturer in the Kinesiology department and serves as the coaching minor advisor. She is active in the community, working with programs such as Blugold Buddies, Reading in the Schools, Special Olympics, Boys and Girls Clubs, Feed My People, and volunteering at local youth basketball practices and participating the Stroll in the Park for Epilepsy. The Blugold Girls Basketball and Leadership Camps, led and directed by Englund, attract over 500 participants each summer as the entire coaching staff and basketball team work together to teach basketball fundamentals and leadership lessons in a unique camp setting.    Updated 3/9/2016

Hannah Iverson

Head Coach

Hannah Iverson was hired as the fifth head coach in women's basketball program history in March of 2026. Iverson arrives at UW–Eau Claire after seven highly successful seasons at UW–Stout, where she compiled a 125-74 record and became the program’s second-winningest coach. During her tenure, she guided the Blue Devils to multiple historic milestones, including a 2023 WIAC regular season championship, the 2024 WIAC Tournament title, 2024 NCAA Sweet Sixteen Appearance, and a 2025 NCAA Division III Final Four appearance, the first in program history. Her accomplishments earned her recognition as the 2023 WIAC Coach of the Year.  Beyond wins and championships, Iverson built a culture centered on development, accountability, and academic achievement. Her teams produced numerous all-conference and All-American players, an earned 77 WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll selections, reflecting her commitment to excellence both on the court and in the classroom. Prior to her head coaching role, Iverson gained valuable experience at UW–Green Bay, the University of Illinois, and Ashford University, where she contributed to postseason success and program growth at multiple levels of collegiate basketball.  A standout player herself, Iverson starred at UW–Green Bay, helping lead the Phoenix to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 run in 2011, earning a spot in UW-Green Bay’s Hall of Fame. A graduate and hall of fame member of Eau Claire North, Iverson returns to her hometown with her husband Ryan and their children, Leo, Myla, Max, and Dayla.

Kyleigh Fanning

Associate Head Coach

Kyleigh Fanning begins her first year with Blugold women’s basketball as the Associate Head Coach in 2026. Fanning arrived in Eau Claire after ten seasons on the UW–Stout coaching staff, where she played a pivotal role in elevating the Blue Devils into one of the WIAC’s most competitive and nationally recognized programs. Her leadership contributed to 25 All-WIAC selections, six WIAC All-Defensive Team honorees, six D3hoops.com All-Region selections, and two All-Americans, while also supporting exceptional academic achievement with 91 WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll recipients and 13 CSC Academic All-District selections.  During her tenure, UW–Stout reached historic heights, including the program’s first-ever NCAA Division III Final Four appearance in 2025 following a 23–8 season and a postseason run that featured wins over nationally ranked opponents. The Blue Devils also captured the 2024 WIAC Tournament Championship, advancing to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2006. In 2023, Stout secured a share of the WIAC regular-season title, marking the program’s first conference championship in more than 15 years.  A former Blue Devil standout herself, Fanning was a four-year player at UW–Stout from 2012–16, earning First Team All-WIAC honors as a senior and serving as a three-time team captain. She concluded her collegiate career with 821 points and 235 assists, following a decorated multi-sport career at Spencer High School. Kyleigh graduated from UW-Stout with a bachelor’s degree in applied science and received her master’s degree from Arkansas State in sports administration. Fanning resides in Eau Claire with her husband, Brandon, and their son, Ollie.

Peg Johnson

Coach

Johnson enters her third season as the Director of Basketball Operations. From 2000-2012 she served as the assistant womens basketball coach at UW-Eau Claire and helped the Blugolds win the WIAC championship in 2001, 2003, 2008, and 2012. Prior to coaching at Eau Claire, Johnson was the head womens basketball coach at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN from 1992-2000. In 1999, she was named MIAC Coach of the Year. At Gustavus, she was also the senior woman administrator in the athletics department. Her collegiate basketball career started at Gustavus Adolphus College, where she was a two-year starter and team captain. She was also a three-year letter winner and a two-time Academic All-Conference player. Johnson earned her B.A. degree and graduated magna cum laude from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1990 with a double major in speech communication and health fitness. In 1998 she received her Masters degree in physical education with an emphasis in the social and psychological aspects of sport from Minnesota State University-Mankato. Johnson is entering her 17th year as a member of the Kinesiology Department at UW-Eau Claire. She currently serves as a Senior Lecturer in the department and teaches exercise science and strength and conditioning courses for KINS majors. She is also a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and has her CSCS certification (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist). Johnson is married to Brad and they have two daughters, Kate and Bryn.
