Charlie King

Head Coach

King  begins his fifth season as head coach of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's and men's swimming & diving program in 2016-17.  He is also an instructor in the university's exercise & sport science department. He has led the UWL women's squad to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) crown in each of his first four seasons (2012-16).  The Eagles have won 16 league titles in school history.  For his efforts, King was selected the WIAC Women's Coach of the Year in 2012-13 and 2013-14.   UWL has earned 23 individual and seven relay championships the last four years under King.   Brooke Reynolds was selected the 2013-14 WIAC Swimmer of the Meet at the league championships.   Abby Diehl (2012-13), Reynolds (2014-15) and Sara Zemanovic (2015-16) were named the WIAC Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete.  King has led the UWL men's team to second-place finishes at the WIAC Championships in three (2012-15) of his four seasons.  The Eagles have won 10 individual and four relay crowns in the last four seasons.   Stephen Hanko was chosen the 2014-15 WIAC Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete. King was the assistant swimming & diving coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Utah from 2008-12.  He was also Utah's Director of Camps and co-taught Coaching Swimming.  With King as their assistant coach, nine Utah student-athletes set school records and four achieved a USA Olympic Trials Standard. Prior to arriving at the University of Utah, King served as a head coach of two Division III swimming programs: Millikin University (Ill.) in 2007-08 and Augsburg College (Minn.) in 2003-05.  He also was a graduate assistant swimming coach at St. Cloud State University (Minn.) for two seasons, from 2005-07. Before joining the college ranks, King was co-head coach of the Monticello (Minn.) Swim Club from 1999-2004.  He was the assistant swimming coach at Monticello (Minn.) High School in 2000-03 and the head swimming coach at Apollo High School (St. Cloud, Minn.) in 1998-2000. King earned his bachelor's degree in social studies with a history emphasis and coaching minor from St. Cloud State (Minn.) in 2000.  He later completed his master's degree at St. Cloud State (Minn.) in sports management. Barry Schockmel

Assistant Coach

Schockmel is credited with guiding the development of UWL's divers. Drew Peterson rewrote the men's diving records while Jane Marien was a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) champion in 1989 under Schockmel's tutelage. Amanda Medendorp earned seven National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) III All-America honors under Schockmel.  She placed eighth in the one-meter competition in 2008 after finishing fourth in the one-meter and ninth in the three-meter in 2007. The Eagles' Rachel LaValley earned four All-America awards under Schockmel.  She placed 11th in the one-meter and 12th in the three-meter in 2010 after finishing 13th in the three-meter and 15th in the one-meter at the 2009 championships. UWL's Justin Bublitz earned six career NCAA Division III All-America diving honors under Schockmel, the most for a UWL diver in school history.  Bublitz finished seventh in the one-meter competition and 16th in the three-meter in 2015.  The seventh-place finish in the one-meter competition is the highest finish for a UWL diver in the event since Kevin Lilly placed school-best fifth in 1999.  Lilly recorded a school-best third-place finish in the three-meter in 1999.  Schockmel was inducted into the UWL Wall of Fame in 1996.

Jake Larson

Assistant Coach

Larson begins his second season as an assistant swimming coach at UW-La Crosse in 2015-16.  Prior to coming to UWL, Larson was an assistant swimming coach at Holdingford (Minn.) High School in 2013-14. He was a four-year letter winner in swimming at St. Cloud (Minn.) State University from 2009-13.  Larson was a member of three Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) championship teams.  A two-year team captain, Larson was a two-time school record holder.  He competed in the 100, 200 and 500 freestyle for the Huskies. Larson was voted St. Cloud State's Hardest Worker.  He graduated from St. Cloud State with a degree in psychology and minor in biology.  Larson graduated from Brainerd (Minn.)
