Ryan Munz

Head Coach

Transformational Purpose Statement Coaching allows me to provide guidance and leadership to student-athletes by encouraging them to dream big and to assist them in developing a plan that will transform their life. Ryan Munz enters his fourth season as the head coach at UW-Platteville and his nineteenth year overall as a member of the UW-Platteville staff after serving as the offensive coordinator since 2007. Munz's third season at the helm proved to be one of the best in program history, as he guided the team to a 9-2 overall record and 6-1 in conference play to help the Pioneers to their first WIAC title since 1970. UW-Platteville advanced to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2016 and recorded three wins over ranked opponents. Munz was awarded with a trio of postseason honors following the campaign, including WIAC George Chryst Coach of the Year and Regional Coach of the Year from both the AFCA and D3Football.com. UW-Platteville had a pair of All-American selections in 2024 in wide receiver Brandt Stare and punter Benjamin Younker, and 14 All-WIAC honorees. In his first year as head coach, Munz guided the Pioneers to a 5-5 overall record and 4-3 mark in the WIAC. Three of the wins came against ranked opponents with victories against Bethel, UW-River Falls, and UW-Whitewater highlighting the campaign. The 17-13 win over UW-Whitewater was the first for UW-Platteville since the 2004 season, when Munz played quarterback for the Pioneers. Munz's second season as head coach saw the Pioneers finish 7-4 overall and 4-3 in WIAC play. UW-Platteville closed the season by playing in the Culver's Isthmus Bowl for the first time in program history, with the Pioneers defeating Augustana (Ill.) by a score of 36-10. 2016 resulted in the Pioneers have the best scoring offense in the WIAC as they again averaged over 40 points a game. This year saw many great talents and more record breaking performances.  Tom Kelly set the single season touchdown passing record (37), Offensive Player of the Year, Dan Arnold, broke the single season receiving yards per game (1,176), and Wyatt Thompson’s single game rushing record (316) as the Pioneers heading back to the NCAA playoffs for the second time since 2013. Quinn Buschbacher was also hauled in 84 passes putting him third on the all time list. 2016 also saw Dan Arnold get NFL recognition as he is currently in the mix for the New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs. In 2015, the Pioneer offense proved to be consistently one of the best offensive units in Division 3 football.  Averaging 38 points and 476 yards per game, the offensive unit continues to run efficiently. The offense was the best passing offense in the conference with an astonishing 81% in the redone by scoring 39 out of 48 attempts. With a young group returning for 2016, the future continues to look bright. In 2014, Munz’s offense continued to light up the scoreboard averaging over 28 points a contest.  1st Team All-WIAC running back Andy Puccini lead the WIAC in rushing and broke the UW-Platteville individual rushing record gaining 1,252 yards under Munz guidance. Second team All-WIAC Quarterback Bryce Corrigan was one of the most efficient passers in the country, throwing for more than 2400 yards. Under Munz, the Pioneer receiving core continues to be one of the best in country with All-WIAC 1st selection Russell Martin, and 2nd Team All-WIAC Trevor Whitehead. Munz's 2013 offense was one of the best in the country as they ranked in the top 30 in seven offensive categories. The 2013 squad surpassed nearly ever record set in 2012. The Pioneers set a program records in total offense (5,991 yards), first downs (308), points scored (455), passing yards (4,186 yards), completions (363) and touchdown passes (42). Under Munz's tutelage, the Pioneers had a pair of wide receivers with over 1,000 receiving yards for the first time in program history. Ryley Bailey tallied 1,047 yards while Trevor Whitehead recorded 1,017 yards receiving. Munz guided the 2012 Pioneers to one of the best offensive seasons in school history and set school records in total offense (4,719 yards), points scored (410), first downs (244), passing percentage (71%) and touchdown passes (33). The Pioneers 344.7 passing yards per game ranked them sixth in the country and their 41 points per contest was good for eighth.   Since the 2007 season. Against UW-Stevens Point (Nov. 12), they racked up 29 first downs for the most since Oct. 13, 2007 against UW-La Crosse. The Pioneer offense rolled up 523 yards of total offense against UW-River Falls (Oct. 22), its highest output since a 533-yard effort against UW-La Crosse in 2007. Munz was a four year quarterback for the Pioneers who earned the prestigious George Chryst Award in 2006. The Highland native earned his bachelor’s degree in business finance upon graduation and continued education to complete his master's degree in project management in 2008. In 2009, he traveled to Germany to play quarterback for the Fursty Razorbacks.  Munz, his wife Jessica, and their children JJ and Roxy reside in Platteville.

Brent Allen

Coach

Allen joined the Pioneer staff in February of 2022. No stranger to Wisconsin football, Allen made the move to UW-Platteville after spending the previous seven seasons as Assistant Football Coach and Run Game Coordinator at UW-Whitewater.  The Mukwanago native brought 13 years of experience coaching at the NCAA Division III level with prior stops at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois and Carroll University in Waukesha. At UW-Whitewater, he coached four WIAC Championship teams, three NCAA DIII Semifinalist teams and one NCAA DIII National Runner-Up program. Time with the Warhawks developing a competitive offensive line room yielded 20 All-WIAC selections, nine All-Americans, one Rimington Award winner and two NFL players.

Dan Bauder

Coach

I became a coach to help our student-athletes have as good of an experience playing this game in college as I did. Helping them learn from both success and failure, foster lasting relationships, and understand the importance of being part of something larger than themselves. Dan Bauder is entering his eighth season with the UW-Platteville Pioneers as defensive coordinator.  Dan joined the Pioneer staff after serving in the same capacity at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois for three seasons. The Pioneers defense has been one of the best in the WIAC over the past two seasons, ranking first in points allowed in 2023 (19.5) and second in 2024 (16.5). UW-Platteville boasted one of the top run defense units in the country in 2023, allowing just 74.9 yards per game and 2.3 yards per carry. Bauder's defenses have been fantastic at rushing the passer as well, totaling a WIAC-high 37 sacks in 2023 before sharing the conference lead in 2024 with 28 sacks. UW-Platteville finished with 20 interceptions in 2024, the most in the WIAC, and returned two of those picks for touchdowns. Bauder has coached 11 All-WIAC selections in his first two seasons with the Pioneers. In 2019, the Pioneers were ranked fifth in the NCAA III with a 1.70 turnover margin and had the third-ranked defense in the WIAC, allowing 21.3 points per a game. While at Augustana, Bauder also served in the role of head strength and conditioning coach. With the Vikings, he coached five All-CCIW Performers.  Bauder’s defense was first in CCIW in pass defense, turnovers, and averaged allowing 19.7 pts/game. Bauder has coached 11 All-WIAC selections in his first two seasons with the Pioneers.  Prior to Augustana, Bauder was at Wittenberg University and was the linebacker, cornerback, and special teams coach at various points during his tenure. He was integral in three North Coast Atlantic Conference Championship teams and three NCAA playoff appearances with the Tigers going 29-6 during that time.  While at Wittenberg, he coached two all-NCAC cornerbacks, and four all-NCAC linebackers. Bauder started his coaching career at his alma mater, Wartburg, and was with the Knights from 2009-2012 working with the running backs and wide receivers.  In addition, he served in the role of assistant recruiting coordinator and assistant strength and conditioning coach.  Prior to coaching, Bauder had a successful college career at Wartburg in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  A three-year starter and varsity letter winner, two at wide receiver and one at quarterback, he was named all-conference and was team captain of the 2008 IIAC championship team.  In addition to football, Bauder competed on the Wartburg track and field team. Bauder resides in Platteville with his wife Jordan and sons Brooks and Baylor.
