Tom Antczak

Head Coach

Antczak has been the UW-Platteville head cross country coach and assistant distance-middle distance track coach at UW-Platteville for the last 24 years. In that time, UW-Platteville has become a nationally prominent distance program. In the last 10 years alone, the men's cross country team has qualified for the NCAA III national meet six times, with a high finish of fourth in 2010.  During that time, Pioneer men's cross country student-athletes have garnered 10 All-America honors, the most of any WIAC or Midwest (Wisconsin, Illinois and Missouri) Region school. Tyler Sigl, who finished 14th in 2004, 4th in 2005, 10th in 2006 and 1st in 2007 leads that list of outstanding athletes. Two Pioneer women earned multiple cross country All-America honors.  Jackie Mulrooney and Marcia Taddy earned All-American honors twice in their careers. Jessica Scott earned her first cross country All-American honor during the 2009 season finishing 12th.  The 2007 season also saw the Womens Cross Country Team qualify for  the NCAA Championships for the first time in school history. In track, Antczaks athletes have achieved 49 All-America honors, including 16 national champions: 2003 outdoor mens 10K; 2004 indoor mens 1,500 meters and distance medley relay; 2005 indoor mens 800 meters and mile; 2005 women's outdoor 800 meters; 2006 womens indoor mile; 2007 womens indoor 800, mile, DMR; the outdoor mens 10K and womens 1,500 meters; 2008 mens DMR and 10K; and the womens 1,500 meters and 800 meters in 2008. In addition, his athletes have established more than 140 school records during his tenure. He also coached one of his athletes, Keri Wells, to the 2000 USA Olympic Marathon Trials and another, Ryan Kleimenhagen, to fourth place in the 1,500 meters at the 2005 USATF Indoor National Championships. Former athletes Tyler Sigl and Corey Stelljes have also qualified for the USA Olympic Marathon Trials. Antczak is a USATF Level II Certified Coach in middle distance/distance events. He is also an exercise physiologist, certified by the ACSM. During his competitive career, Coach Antczak reached near world-class status, qualifying for three Olympic Marathon Trials, winning two Marathon National Championships and placing fifth at the New York City Marathon and 12th at the Boston Marathon.

Andres Young

Associate Head Coach

Young is entering his fifth year as the Assistant Track & Field and Cross Country Coach. Young serves as the pole vault, hurdles and javelin coach for the Pioneers. In addition, he handles administrative and meet management duties for the track and field and Cross Country teams. During his four year tenure, Young has led 22 individual event national qualifiers who have earned 11 All-American honors. Youngs athletes have also won 12 Conference Championships, earned 21 All-Conference performances and set school records 37 times. Young was awarded Midwest Regional Coach of the year honors for his athlete's performance during the 2016 Outdoor season. During the 2016 Outdoor WIAC Championships Young's athletes earned three Conference titles and two runner-up finishes. Most notably, Dan Arnold won the 110-hurdles in a new Championship record of 13.93 and Matt Dwyer set a new school record in the Pole Vault with a 17-foot clearance. A USATF Level 1 and USTFCCA Strength and Conditioning certified coach, Young began his coaching career at UW-Platteville, working with the Pioneers in 2006 and 2007. Young served as the multi-event coach and directed three Pioneers to school records while coaching the first decathlon national qualifier in program history. He also assisted with the cross country teams in the fall. Following his time at UW-Platteville, Young moved on to Alhambra High School in Phoenix, Ariz., where he was an assistant track and field coach and taught biology. As an assistant track and field coach, he was in charge of high jumpers, pole vaulters and long hurdlers, where four athletes qualified for the state meet. One of the four was Jania Featherstone, who finished second in the state in the high jump. He also assisted with coaching distance runners and the cross country team. Young returned to the midwest to pursue a masters degree at Northern Illinois University in kinesiology with an emphasis in exercise physiology and sports psychology. For three years, Young volunteered with the Huskies cross country and track and field programs. During the 2011 outdoor track and field season, he took over as interim distance coach for the Dekalb, Illinois based institution. Eleven of his 12 athletes ran career best times during that season. A native of Miami, Fla., Young attended UW-Platteville where he was a member of the Track and Field and Cross Country teams. Young ran the 400 and 800 meters while also competing in the decathlon. He received his degree from UW-Platteville in 2005, majoring in biology with a minor in Spanish. He and his wife Stephanie, who is a former UW-Platteville Track and Field All-American, reside in Platteville with son Lucas.

Steve Spider Fromader

Assistant Coach

Fromader is a guest clinician at many Track and Field Clinics and has been the high jump instructor at a week long summer track and field camp. He takes a slow as you go approach when working with his athletees: breaking down the high jump into different phases, working to the strengths of each athlete, and making sure they are developing to the best of their abilities. He is Level I certified by USA Track and Field. Fromader is a retired fourth grade teacher from the Lancaster Community Schools and resides in rural Platteville.

Chris Rotzenberg

Coach

Rotzenberg was named head track & field coach in July 2013 after finishing his sixth year with the Pioneers. In July 2012, Rotzenberg was named the interim head track and field coach and coached four indoor all-American honors and three outdoor. He guided the men's team to a third-place finish at the WIAC Outdoor Championship, which was the best finish for the Pioneers since 1969.   As an assistant, Rotzenberg had four of his athletes participate at the NCAA Track and Field Championships, including Jessica Scott who won a national championship in the 800-meter run at the 2008 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.  Prior to coming back to UW-Platteville, he served as a volunteer assistant at the University of Wisconsin (2006-07), where he worked with the women sprinters and 800 meter runners. He also worked at UW-La Crosse from 2004-2006, where he served as an assistant to the mens cross country and track and field teams. During that time, the Eagles won the 2005 national title and were third in 2004. At UW-La Crosse, he assisted in coaching the sprinters and high jumpers, producing All-Americans in both event areas. This contributed to three team national championships in indoor and outdoor track and field.  During the 2003 and 2004 indoor seasons, he served as an assistant track and field coach for UW-Platteville, helping coach the long and triple jumpers. Currently, during the summer, he serves as the lead sprint clinician at the Wisconsin Track and Field Camp and also an administrative assistant for the Wisconsin Camp of Champions Cross Country Camp. During the 2007 track season, Rotzenberg served as an assistant coach to Olympic Gold Medalist Andrew Rock. For seven years, Rotzenberg was the head boys track and field coach at nearby Cuba City (Wis.) High School and the girls head track coach for one season, after serving as a girls assistant coach for five years. During that time, the Cubans set 13 school records and qualified for the state championships in 16 different events. Rotzenberg also spearheaded the fundraising and construction for a new track at Cuba City, raising more than $180,000 to build a new facility. Rotzenberg is a 1997 graduate of UWWhitewater with a bachelors degree in business education. He is a 2006 graduate of UWLa Crosse with a masters degree in exercise and sport science. He is also a USA Track and Field Level II certified coach. Along with his coaching duties, he is a lecturer in the Physical Education Department at UW-Platteville teaching coursework in Kinesiology.
