University of Wisconsin, River Falls Men's Basketball

Lance Westberg rejoined the UWRF men's basketball coaching staff in the summer of 2022. A River Falls native, he previously served as an assistant coach under Jeff Berkhof from 2014-19 while also spending time as the UWRF head women's golf coach.  Most recently, Westberg was the head men's basketball coach at Houghton College in Houghton, N.Y., for three seasons.  During Westberg's five prior seasons helping guide the Falcons, UWRF advanced to three WIAC Championship games, including the 2017 WIAC Tournament Champions in which he was a member of the WIAC Coaching Staff of the Year. Prior to UW-River Falls, Westberg spent a season as an assistant coach at River Falls High School and spent three seasons as the head coach and director of the Minnesota-based Triple Threat Club team, elevating the U15-U17 team to a ranking in the Northstar Hoops Report. Westberg played four years at the University of Northwestern-St. Paul where he was a part of three regular season UMAC championships, three conference tournament championships, three NCAA National Tournament appearances from 2010-13, and an NCCAA National Championship in 2010. Individually, he earned honorable mention to the All-UMAC team during the 2012-13 season along with being named the conference championship MVP, and the UMAC Individual Sportsmanship Award. Westberg and his wife, Courtney, reside in River Falls. Courtney is a UWRF alumna and teaches fourth grade in Prescott, Wis.

Charlie Choiniere is entering his fourth season as assistant coach for UWRF men’s basketball team in 2025-26. A native of Oakdale, Minn., Choiniere played four years at Hamline University from 2009 to 2013. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2014 and currently works as a Psychiatric Associate for M Health Fairview. Prior to UWRF, Choiniere spent six years coaching at the high school level. Most recently, he was the head B-squad boys’ basketball coach at Stillwater High School from 2019 to 2022. Before coaching at Stillwater, Choiniere was head C-squad and varsity program assistant for St. Paul Academy and Summit School’s boys’ basketball team. He also served as head coach of the MN Select U16 AAU team. Choiniere and his wife, Mary, reside in Golden Valley, Minn.  

Keegan Nielsen joined the UWRF men's basketball coaching staff during the 2024-25 season.   Nielsen is a native and graduate of Prescott High School in Prescott, Wis., and is a UWRF alum having played four years on the Falcon Football team from 2016-19. He earned his bachelor’s degree in elementary education and is currently a fifth grade teacher at Spring Valley Elementary in Spring Valley, Wis.   For the last two years, Nielsen has coached basketball at the high school level. Most recently, he was the head C-team boys’ basketball coach at Prescott High School from 2022-2024. While on staff he also filled the role of varsity assistant under legendary Wisconsin High School basketball coach, Nick Johnson. During his tenure, he helped his team win a pair of regional finals and a sectional final while reaching the WIAA State semifinals. Before coaching at Prescott, Nielsen was a youth and AAU coach for five years. He has worked out and trained many players at all collegiate and youth levels.    Nielsen resides in Prescott.
