Mary Giles

Head Coach

Giles has a career mark of 259-176-2, good for a .595 winning percentage, and has posted a 57-20 regular season record in WSC play (.740). In the classroom,  Giles' teams have captured three CCCAA State Scholar Team Awards (2007, 2009 and 2013).  Giles is also the women's swim team head coach and is a full-time health instructor at the College. Coach Giles was born and raised in Ventura. She attended Buena High School where she was a member of the swim team and played water polo on the boys team. While attending Ventura College she was a two-year All-WSC and All-American swimmer, and played on the first women's water polo club team at Ventura College.  She was the swimming MVP her second year before transferring to San Jose State. While at San Jose, Giles swam for Roseann Benson and played water polo under the coaching of Lou Tully.  She captained the Spartans' water polo team for three years, was a three year Western Athletic Conference Scholar Athlete, a three year SJSU Outstanding Athlete and a 1998 Mountain Pacific Scholar Athlete.  She earned her bachelor's degree from San Jose State majoring in nutritional science with minors in chemistry and health and was a Dean's Scholar.  Giles completed her teaching credential at Cal Lutheran University and earned her master's degree in education with an emphasis in physical education from Azusa Pacific University in 2003. Giles resides in Ventura with her husband Mike and son Merrick, and daughter Makayla, who was born during the Pirates' 2012 season.

Linda Wright

Assistant Coach

Wright enters her second season at Ventura College after a successful coaching career with Hanford High in Central California. Wright led the Lady Pups to the CIF Central Section championship game three straight years after winning the titles in 2012 and 2013. She also attained three West Yosemite League titles over her five year run with Hanford. Currently, Wright heads the girls' varsity program at Rio Mesa High School, where she guided them to a Pacific View League Title and earned PVL Coach of the Year. After joining USA Water Polo in 2012 as the team manager for the Women's Development team, Wright quickly found her way to the Cadet National Team and an ODP Central Zone Coach. She enjoys international travel with Team USA, where she has been part of the delegation earning gold at the Junior Pan Americas in Argentina(2013) and Jamaica(2015) and also the Hungarian National Water Polo Tournament in 2014. In 2016, Linda earned the prestigious Brent Bohlender Distinguished Coaching Award, a National USA Water Polo honor. Linda earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Southern California. She is married to her college sweetheart, Justin. They have three children, Bradley, Eric and Meghan (all water polo players). Linda enjoys yoga and travel. She relocated to Ventura in 2015 and has enjoyed becoming a part of the Ventura community.
