Brendan Phelps

Coach

Brendan Phelps joined VCU Men's Basketball as chief of staff in April of 2025 following a pair of successful seasons alongside Phil Martelli Jr. at Bryant.  Previously, Phelps served as an assistant coach for Martelli at Bryant from 2023-25, where he helped lift the Bulldogs to back-to-back 20-win seasons, including a 2025 America East Championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance. The 2024-25 Bryant squad set a program Division I record with 23 wins and featured America East Player of the Year Earl Timberlake and Newcomer of the Year Barry Evans.  Phelps joined Bryant after serving as the head coach at Berlin High School in Connecticut during the 2022-23 season.
