Chavez Mabry
Head Coach
Chavez Mabry completed his first season as Head Coach of the Virginia State University Men’s and Women’s Tennis programs in 2022-23. In his first season at the helm of women's tennis, Coach Mabry and the Trojans were Northern Division Champions in the conference after a 12-4 overall record and a 9-1 mark in CIAA action. Leading the men's tennis team, Coach Mabry went 0-10. Coach Mabry has been in charge of several tennis programs, from Parks and Recreation in Richmond to the NJTL in Alexandria, VA. He has also served as Head Pro for the Suffolk Tennis Association. In 1995, Coach Mabry chose to become a certified teaching pro, by going to the mecca of tennis, the US. Open facility to become certified. He has taught several collegiate tennis players over his career as a high school tennis coach. He has taught the boys and girls teams at Nansemond River High School, T.C. Williams High School, and Indian River High School. Coach Mabry owns his business, Three B’s: Books, Behavior, Business, LLC, where he raises money to help youth advance their careers on the tennis courts and other ventures. His goal is to develop positive attitudes towards winning as a team. Putting the as they strive to use their physical ability and mental savvy to do the best they can as the coaching staff guides them to the state of maturity where one can become self- reliant as they embark on their future endeavors. Coach Mabry was born in California and later moved to Suffolk, VA where in four years of High School he played number one on the Boys tennis team and won the Regional Title in 1984. He qualified that year for the State Tournament and lost in the Quarter Finals of the tournament. He was ranked as high as #10 in the Mid Atlantic 18 and under. Coach Mabry went on to play #1 for Virginia Union University in his junior and senior years. He then became Assistant Coach with the Men’s Tennis team at VUU under the leadership of Dr. John Watson from 1989-1991. Coach Mabry has one son, Taron Marcus Dozier and one daughter, Kayla Chanel Lewis. He owes his mother, Fannie Mabry and brother Frankie Mabry everything for their continued support.

Elizabeth Allen
Head Coach
Elizabeth Allen has been announced as the new Head Coach of the Cross Country/Track & Field programs at Virginia State University, as named by Director of Athletics Tiffani-Dawn B. Sykes. "I am excited to welcome Coach Allen as the head coach of our cross country and track and field programs," said Tiffani-Dawn B. Sykes, Associate Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics. "She embodies everything our student-athletes hoped for in their next coach and everything I envisioned in their next leader. Coach Allen made an incredible impression on the search committee, and I'm confident that our program will thrive under her guidance. Her appointment also marks a historic moment, as she becomes the first woman to lead our program." Allen most recently spent three years at Virginia Commonwealth University as an assistant track & field coach, where she also served as recruiting coordinator and camp director. At VCU, she coached sprints, hurdles, relays, and multi-event athletes. During her time there, the track & field program won three Atlantic 10 Conference championships. Allen coached three athletes who broke four A-10 records and helped produce 19 conference champions in her event groups. Over her career, she has coached four team conference championships, 28 individual conference champions, seven conference MVPs, and two conference rookies of the year. "It is a privilege and an honor to serve as the next Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach at Virginia State University. I am both grateful and thankful that Tiffani-Dawn B. Sykes has given me the opportunity to serve and lead this program," said Allen. "I must give a special thanks to Coach Jon Riley at Virginia Commonwealth University and Chandra Cheeseborough-Guice at Tennessee State University for playing a vital role in my coaching career." Prior to VCU, Allen led the track & field program at Allen High School for six years. As Head Coach, she oversaw and developed training in sprints, hurdles, relays, middle distance, throws, horizontal and vertical jumps. While managing all aspects of the girls' program, she raised over $65,000 in funding. She coached 10 Texas UIL 6A state qualifiers and 36 regional qualifiers. Under her leadership, the team won three district titles, two area titles, and earned a Texas 6A Region II runner-up finish. Thirty of her athletes received athletic scholarships to compete at the collegiate level, and 10 school records were broken during her tenure. Allen also served as meet director for the Allen Eagle Relays, the DFW Relays, and the Last Chance Meet. Before Allen High School, she spent one year at the University of North Texas (UNT), coaching sprints, hurdles, and relays. While at UNT, she helped produce three NCAA West Preliminary qualifiers. Allen began her collegiate coaching career under legendary Olympian Chandra Cheeseborough-Guice at Tennessee State University, where she coached sprints, hurdles, relays, pole vault, and multi-events for three years. During her time, the Tigerbelles won an Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Championship and earned one OVC runner-up finish. Her athletes broke two OVC records, produced 12 OVC champions, one IAAF/U-20 qualifier, five NCAA East Preliminary qualifiers, one NCAA national qualifier, two OVC Freshman of the Year awardees, and one OVC Female Athlete of the Championship. Before entering the collegiate ranks, Allen coached at the University School of Nashville (USN) for two years, producing four TSSAA state champions. Eight athletes qualified for the TSSAA State Championship, and eight school records were broken during her time there. Formerly known as Elizabeth Pollock, Allen enjoyed a standout athletic career at Belmont University. As a Bruin, she was a five-time NCAA regional qualifier, five-time Atlantic Sun event champion, 11-time All-Atlantic Sun Conference performer, eight-time school record holder, and a USATF Junior National qualifier. In 2023, she was inducted into the Belmont University Sports Hall of Fame. She is a two-time graduate of Belmont, holding a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science and a Master of Sport Administration. Allen holds USATF Level 1 and Level 2 certifications in Sprints, Hurdles, and Relays, as well as USTFCCCA certifications in Meet Management and Strength & Conditioning. She and her husband are proud parents of three children.

David Brown
Assistant Coach
David Brown joins Virginia State University’s track and field staff as Assistant Jumps Coach at the start of the 2025/26 season. Since arriving in the Land of Troy, he has taken on a multifaceted role within the Trojans’ program, supporting recruitment, training, and athlete development for the jumps and multi-events groups. Assisting in the field, he collaborates with the head coach to guide the men’s and women’s jumps squads through practice and competition preparation, emphasizing technical precision, biomechanics, and mental resilience. His prior experience as a high-level jumper has bolstered previous programs, contributing to improved personal records for over 90% of the student-athletes while maintaining or elevating their GPAs as well. Under his guidance, groups have produced multiple NCAA West Prelim qualifiers, Big 12 Indoor and Outdoor scorers, and a Big 12 Outdoor Champion, with standout improvements including a two-foot triple jump gains in half a season and numerous All-American honors. As an athlete, Brown was a standout jumper across three programs, earning 12 All-American and All-Conference accolades. At Texas A&M University (2011-2013), he secured the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Regional Championship and Second Team All-American status in the triple jump with a personal best of 53 feet, ranking seventh on the Aggies’ all-time list, while helping the team to top national finishes. He continued his success at the University of Houston (2014-2015) as the 2015 American Athletic Conference Champion and NCAA West Regional Qualifier in the triple jump, plus First Team All-Conference in both jumps indoors and outdoors. Earlier at the University of New Mexico (2010-2011), he earned All-Mountain West honors in the triple and long jumps. Following his collegiate career, Brown volunteered as a jumps coach at the University of Oklahoma (2015-2017), where he recruited record-setting student-athletes like the program’s all-time top triple and high jumpers. He also coached at Cameron Yoe High School (2014-2015) where he had similar success. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Sociology with a minor in Health from the University of Houston and holds a USTFCCCA 251 Coaching Certification.
