Amanda Walker

Head Coach

Amanda Walker is entering her fifth season as Virginia State Universitys Head Volleyball Coach. Walker was named head coach of the Virginia State University Trojan Volleyball Team on August 3, 2017.   In 2018, Walker led the Trojans to a history making season by clinching the title of Northern Division Champions with an overall record of 22-13 and a conference record of 13-4, and led team to the programs first conference tournament finals appearance. The Trojans were also awarded the highest team GPA of all VSU sports for the 2018-19 school year with a cumulative team GPA of 3.49. Walker was also  nominated and a top 5 finalist for HBCU Female Coach of the Year.   In 2017, Walkers debut season as Head Coach, she led the team to an overall record of 11-17, a conference record of 10-5, and an advancement to the conference tournament semi-finals. During her time at VSU, Walker has coached players to earn 2 First Team, 4 Second Team and 1 All- Rookie Team accolades. Walker comes to VSU with 11 years of volleyball experience, both as a coach and player.   Before coming to VSU, Walker was the Assistant Volleyball Coach at West Virginia Wesleyan College. She also served as the Head Volleyball Coach of the Colleges JV program where she led the team to an overall record of 6-2.   Walker is a native of Virginia Beach, Va. and attended Concord University where she graduated in May 2015. At the time of her graduation as a volleyball player at Concord, she was the only CU player to have more than 900 assists and 900 digs in a career. She also ranked seventh in school history in aces and eighth in digs. She was a captain of the team her sophomore, junior and senior year. Walker was the starting libero during her freshman and senior year and was one of two starting setters her sophomore and junior year. Her other volleyball accomplishments include as a junior player, qualifying to play in the Junior Olympic Games for beach volleyball five years in a row and placing fifth nationally all five years. She has experience coaching volleyball on both the club and collegiate levels.

Kaitlyn Scroggins

Head Coach

Kaitlyn Scroggins has been announced as the eighth head coach of the Virginia State University volleyball program by Associate Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Tiffani-Dawn B. Sykes.  "I am excited to welcome Kaitlyn to Virginia State University as the new head coach of our volleyball program." said Sykes "I've had the opportunity to watch her compete as a student-athlete and later transition into the coaching ranks. She has been part of a conference championship coaching staff and understands what it takes to build a winning culture. I believe she is the right person to lead this program in pursuit of its first-ever CIAA championship."  Kaitlyn Scroggins most recently served as an assistant coach at Florida A&M University during the 2024 season. While at FAMU, she oversaw the team's serving, helping to enhance serve-receive efficiency and improve serving accuracy. Scroggins also assisted with recruiting efforts and scouting, ran team practices, and utilized Volleymetrics. The Rattlers won the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championship, securing an automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament, where they played No. 1 seed Nebraska.  "It's an incredible honor to be named the next head volleyball coach at Virginia State University." said Scroggins "As someone deeply passionate about HBCU culture and committed to the growth of HBCU volleyball, I'm excited to lead this program forward. VSU had an impressive season last year, and I'm eager to build on that momentum with energy, discipline, and a standard of excellence that reflects the Trojan legacy."  Scroggins is also heavily involved in club volleyball, coaching the Prostyle Volleyball Academy's 12U and 17U teams and assisting with the 13U and 14U teams. She helped improve the teams' winning percentage by 50% in tournament play in a single season. Additionally, she has coached with the Houston Juniors Volleyball Club and the Texas Tornado Volleyball Club.  Before transitioning into coaching, Scroggins was a four-year player at Texas Southern University, where she played as a defensive specialist. She recorded 615 career digs and added 104 assists for the Tigers. She then spent her graduate year with the Rattlers, finishing fifth on the team with 127 digs. As a player, she qualified for the SWAC Tournament in all five years of her collegiate career.  Scroggins earned a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism from Texas Southern University. She later received a Master of Science in Sport Management from Florida A&M University.
