Dan Walters
Associate Head Coach
Walters is in his eighth season at Wake Forest and his third as the Associate Head Mens Golf Coach in 2016-17. In Walters time with the Demon Deacons, he has shaped himself into one of the top recruiters in the country, helping bring in some of the top talent from across the country. He has also helped develop a number of tremendous players. Walters has been a semifinalist for the Jan Strickland Assistant Coach of the Year Award in each of the past four seasons. Walters has coached five All-Americans, including Brendan Gielow who won the 2010 Byron Nelson Award. A total of six players have earned All-ACC accolades during his tenure, including 2015 ACC Freshman of the Year Will Zalatoris, and six players have won 11 times individually. As a team, the Deacons have won eight team titles during Walters time on staff, including four victories in 2015-16. That squad was ranked as high as No. 2 nationally during the season and made Wake Forests first appearance at the NCAA Championship in seven seasons. The Deacs have qualified for the NCAA Regionals in every year in which Walters has coached, including a fifth place finish in Tucson in 2016 to qualify for the NCAA Championship. The Deacons have also produced academically under Walters. There have been three Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-American Scholars and two ACC Scholar Athletes of the Year (Brendan Gielow and Evan Beck). The team won the Wake Forest Deans Cup in 2012-13 for having the highest overall team GPA. Walters was a two-time PING first team All-America at Rollins where he averaged 72.77 shots per round and posted 16 top-15 finishes in 21 events with three victories over his final two years. In all, Walters recorded five collegiate victories and was a three-time Cleveland Golf All-American Scholar. He also won the 2006 Sunshine State Conference Championship and was named first team All-South Region and first team All-Sunshine State Conference in both 2005 and 2006. Walters was a three-year letterwinner for the Tars from 2004-06 and remained with the program as an assistant coach for the 2007 and 2008 seasons. While he was coaching at Rollins, Walters also played professionally on the North American Professional Golf Tour and the NGA Hooters Tour. He finished 14th on the NAPGT money list in 2007 and was 11th place on the 2008 Hooters Tour Winter Series. The Lancaster, Pa., native also finished as the low professional at the 2008 Pennsylvania Open and was a US Open Sectional qualifier in 2012. Walters and his wife Lindsay were married in 2012 and have a son Luke, who was born in December, 2013. The Walters reside in Winston-Salem.
