Ashleigh Genevich

Assistant Coach

Ashleigh Genevich returns to her Alma Mater to assist the Women's Rowing Team as the lead Coxswain Coach.  Prior to joining the Shorewomen, Genevich spent three years as the assistant coach for the Marist women's rowing team, coaching from 2013 - 2016.   From 2011 - 2013 Genevich worked for two years at the University of Miami as the women's assistant coach and recruiting coordinator focusing on recruitment of student athletes at an international level. Emphasis was also in developing accelerated training and skills development for promising walk on athletes. Several walk on athletes had successful impact in varsity boats making them selves a lineup stapleBefore her stint at Miami,  spent three years as head coach of the men's novice rowing squads at her alma mater, Washington College. During her tenure, the Shoremen won the 2008 Mid-Atlantic Championships with the men's four-man novice team as well as in 2009 with the men's novice squad. Her squad also advanced to the semifinals in back-to-back years in 2008 and 2009 at the Dad Vail Regatta, the largest collegiate regatta in the United States, on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia.During her collegiate career, Genevich called the shots as coxswain for the men's rowing team at Washington College in Chestertown, Md., earning All-Mid Atlantic Regional accolades. By her junior year she had moved on to coxswain for the men's varsity rowing squad where she accomplished some impressive feats by guiding the varsity four-man squad to a second-place finish at the 2007 Mid-Atlantic Division III Regional Championships. The following year Genevich's squad made the adjustments to take first at the 2008 Mid-Atlantic Division III Championships. As a senior, Genevich's boat finished fourth at the Dad Vail Regatta.She graduated from Washington College with a Master's degree in history and is certified in Secondary Education.Genevich has served as a counselor and coach at multiple rowing camps to becoming officially certified through U.S. Rowing and has attended a camp for the U.S. National Team.

Lauren Shaw

Assistant Coach

An NCAA Division II National Champion, Lauren Shaw joined the Shorewomen's coaching staff during the summer of 2009. Shaw was a four-year rower at Nova Southeastern University in Florida.  During her time as an assistant coach at Washington College, the team has won 10 Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC) crowns and gone to the NCAA Championships on nine occasions.  Shaw's outstanding collegiate rowing career concluded at the 2009 NCAA Division II Championships, where she rowed for the Sharks' National Championship-winning varsity four. It was Shaw's third appearance at NCAA's as she was a member of the third-place varsity four at the 2008 championships and a member of the fourth-place varsity four at the 2006 championships.  A 2009 All-Sunshine State Conference (SSC) selection, Shaw rowed for back-to-back SSC Championship-winning varsity fours and was a member of three SSC Overall Points Championship teams. She also helped Nova Southeastern to its first-ever FIRA Team Championship as a senior.  In addition to her success on the water, Shaw was an outstanding student at Nova Southeastern and was named a 2008 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete. She earned a degree in Education from the school in 2009.

Sophie Westfield

Assistant Coach

Sophie Westfield was a four-year member of the women’s rowing team at Ithaca College. She earned her B.S. in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, with a dual minor in Education Studies and the Honors Program, at Ithaca College. Following her graduation from IC in 2019, she worked as an assistant rowing coach for the Learn to Row program as well as the Masters’ Summer Rowing League at Three Rivers Rowing Association in Pittsburgh, PA. Westfield worked as an assistant coach with the Modified program at the Niskayuna Rowing Club from 2019-2021 while pursuing her master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY. The programs she has worked with focused on building the athletes’ skills for on-the-water as well as indoor rowing, while also providing them with the foundation to continue with the sport competitively or recreationally. She is currently a pediatric speech-language pathologist in Annapolis, Maryland.
