Al Sampson

Head Coach

Al Sampson enters his first season as the Head Softball Coach for the Gorloks.  Sampson comes to Webster after spending the past 15 years coaching and managing at Jeffco Xpress Fastpitch Organization in Jefferson County, Missouri and two seasons at the College of Pharmacy in St. Louis during the 2020 and 2021 seasons.  During his tenure at Xpress Softball that started in 2009, Sampson has been a spectacular coach that directed, trained, and motivated softball players with diverse skill sets from the ages of 8-22 to reach their full potential on and off the diamond.   In addition, Sampson has worked with over 300 softball players on a one-on-one basis as a hitting instructor and has coached over 1,200 select games. Sampson has a deep connection with recruiting in the state of Missouri and around the country with scouting and recruiting players. During his time at Xpress, he advanced over 100 players to either Division I, II, III, NAIA, and or Junior College programs.   In an advanced role at Xpress Softball, Sampson has been the Vice President since 2009 where he scouted and recruited players for the program while being a resource for players with college coaches to advance their playing career.  In a previous role as the Assistant Softball Coach at College of Pharmacy in St. Louis, he was the Hitting and Fielding Coach that led the team to the best overall hitting season and lowest earned run average in school history at that time. Sampson is a Board Member of the Tanner Boynton Scholarship Fund which was founded in 2009 and has helped give out over 130 scholarships over the past 13 years to area high school seniors that play baseball and softball. Sampson graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.

Scott Charleville

Assistant Coach

Scott Charleville enters his first season as an Assistant Coach for the Gorloks primarily working with the pitchers.  Coach Charleville comes to Webster after spending the past 18 years as the Founder and President of Jeffco Xpress Fastpitch Organization which started in 2006 located in Jefferson County, Missouri. While at Jeffco Express, Coach Charleville managed the 18U and 16U gold travel teams, scouted and recruited players of all ages, trained hundreds of players in all areas, and oversaw team budgets. Since 2014, he has lead his numerous select teams to three World Series Championships along with three Second-place finishes and two third-place finishes. Outside of managing the organization, Coach Charleville spent seven seasons as an Assistant Coach at Mineral Area College (NJCAA) during the 2013-2018 and 2020-2022 seasons. While at MAC, he was the pitching and catching coach, hitting and fielding instructor, coached first and third base, and scouted/recruited college bound players.  Coach Charleville spent the 2018-19 season as an Assistant Coach at Missouri Baptist which was followed up with one season at St Louis College of Pharmacy (now known as University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy in St. Louis) with the same roles as Mineral Area College.  In addition, Charleville is the current owner and manager of Charleville’s Beauty & Athletic Complex located in De Soto, Missouri where he started back in 2000. Charleville purchased, designed, and constructed the building that includes a full service beauty salon & various retail items. It also serves as the headquarters of Charleville Sports, which hosts fastpitch tournaments, events & camps. He is the Assistant USA Tourney Director for St Louis.    Charleville graduated from De Soto high school in 1989 and has certificates in SafeCoach, Customer Service Training, Business Ethics Training, and Property Management Specialist. He currently resides in DeSoto.

Abbey McAteer

Assistant Coach

Abbey McAteer enters her first season as an Assistant Coach for the Gorloks primarily working with the outfielders.  Coach McAteer comes to Webster after a three-year stint as an Assistant Softball Coach under Webster's Head Coach Al Sampson and Assistant Coach Scott Charleville at Jeffco Xpress Fastpitch Softball in Jefferson County, Missouri during the 2021-24 seasons. While at Xpress, Coach McAteer specialized in working with the outfielders on a plethora of drills, footwork, and communication. In addition, she helped run practices, games, created lineups, and called pitches. McAteer is in her third year as an Account Manager at Lockton Companies where she helps the dedicated account team produce high quality products for clients in several areas such as benchmarking, requests for proposals, and aggregate reports. In addition, she assists account managers with organization and accuracy of client information . McAteer had a fantastic playing career at Jefferson College (NJCAA) and Drury University (Div. II). While at JC, she was a two-year starter in the outfield and was selected to the All-Region First Team, First Team All-MCCAC, and Academic All-NJCAA American.  McAteer graduated from Drury University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and earned a certification in Neurodiversity while earning a 3.97 grade point average. Before Drury, she graduated from Jefferson College in 2019 with an associates degree in Business Management.
