Stephen Kimes

Head Coach

Kimes, who was hired in August 2012, has already taken the Wolverines to new heights.  The 2013-14 season showcased Kimes' and Wesley's first-ever recruiting class for the program, and the Wolverines brought in the largest class of any NCAA team across all divisions.  Despite Wesley's youth, the Wolverines produced a CAC-record nine National Qualifiers during the outdoor season, four All-Americans, 19 conference champions and 31 All-CAC award winners. Bringing both men's relay teams to Nationals for the first time in CAC-history, and Kameko Webb (long jump), Wesley's first-ever National Qualifier on the women's side, the 4x100m Relay of freshmen Patrick Schlosser, DaJahn Lowery, Markael Jenkins and Johnny Crenshaw took third in 40.71.  The quartet broke a CAC and Stadium Record in the process and became the first relay in conference history to earn All-America honors. Kimes received his first-ever CAC Coach of the Year Award on the women's side during the 2013-14 indoor season and also helped freshmen and high school teammates Kiona Mency and Elizsha Streeter earn CAC Athlete and Rookie of the Year honors, respectively. On the men's side, Matt Bundy (110 hurdles) and freshman Markael Jenkins (60m Dash) also qualified for the NCAA National Championships. Wesley began to see the fruits of Kimes' labor during the 2013 cross country season.  On the men's side, three Wolverines (freshmen Kevin Clements and Dominic McAnulty, as well as junior Carlton Sheppard, who broke the CAC Championship Record in the 800m Run) broke into the school's top ten list with Clements ranking second all-time.  First-year runner Dieunise Desir highlighted the all-freshman cross country team, shattering a school-record in the 6K (23:34) held by Hall of Famer Angela Brown and became the first Wolverine to earn All-CAC honors. In his first year at the helm of the Wolverines track and cross country program, Kimes made an instant impact which was felt all throughout campus.  Getting a late start, Kimes helped every distance runner on the cross country team set personal records in the 5K, 6K or 8K before the winter and spring track seasons. Kimes' men's and women's athletes broke an impressive 31 school-records in the indoor and outdoor season. Matt Bundy and Robert Wiggs were both named All-Conference in the indoor season on the men's side and Bundy also qualified for his second-straight NCAA Championship. Bundy also qualified for Nationals during the outdoor season for the second-straight-time after defending his 110m hurdle ECAC title while Twila McCrea was named All-CAC in the 400m and the 4x100m Relay along with Taylor Lynch, Kerri Pagels and Stevi Carpenter. Kimes came to Dover from Carver Vo-Tech High School in Baltimore, where he led the Bears to four State titles in his five years, including back-to-back indoor/outdoor championships in 2010 and 2011. Kimes also helped the inner-city school to six regional Track Championships and four-straight Baltimore City League titles.  His student-athletes also won individual State titles in the 55m, 100m, 800m, long jump, high jump, triple jump, 55m hurdles, 300m hurdles, discus, 4x100m Relay and 4x200m Relay.  Kimes also coached the Maryland State record holders in the long jump, triple jump and Indoor 4x200m Relay.  Several of his athletes are also nationally-ranked, including the top-ranked 55m sprinter in the Class of 2015. At the conclusion of the 2010 season, Kimes was named the Baltimore Sun Metro Track & Field Coach of the Year.  Also serving as a Physical Education teacher at Carver, Kimes was named the 2010-11 Carver Vo-Tech Teacher of the Year. Prior to relocating to Baltimore, Kimes served as Assistant Athletic Director at Huntington (W.V.) High School from 2004 to 2006 and was the Head Girls Track Coach at Cammack Middle School from 2001 to 2005.  At Cammack, he led the squad to titles in 2002, 2003 and 2005.  Kimes, who holds a USA Track & Field Level 1 Certification, graduated in 2000 from Marshall University with a degree in elementary education and was a varsity letterman on the Thundering Herds cross country and track & field teams. In 1997, Kimes was part of the Southern Conference Indoor Championship Team which included NFL wide receiver Randy Moss, who was named the SoCons Rookie of the Year.  Kimes then went on to earn his Masters from Marshall in 2005 in Health and Physical Education. Kimes, and his wife, Kristen, have a daughter, Holland.

Adam Thielemann

Assistant Coach

Thielemann, who is in his fourth year at Wesley College where he works with throwers, comes to the Wolverines program following brief coaching stints at Mount Vernon High School (Va.), Dickinson College and Lehigh University, where he also worked with the throwing events. During the indoor season at Lehigh, Thielemann helped three athletes qualify for the ECAC/IC4A indoor championships with all three throwers scoring at the Patriot League Indoor Championships. Senior ELana Lemon, the most decorated field event athlete in Patriot League history, claimed her first Patriot League indoor weight throw championship with teammate Jimil Ataman finishing fourth. On the mens side, senior Chris Buck threw a personal best and IC4A qualifier, finishing fourth in the Patriot League mens shot put competition.   Earlier in the indoor season Thielemanns athletes claimed both weight throw titles with four athletes setting personal bests during the Lehigh-Lafayette dual meet.   Emerging with the spring weather, Lehighs throwers excelled outdoors under Thielemann. In a season where nine of his athletes accomplished personal bests in at least one event, Jimil Ataman and ELana Lemon topped 56 meters in the hammer throw en route to Patriot League gold and silver performances, earning invitations to compete at the NCAA First Round Championships.   Elsewhere in the throws, three womens javelin throwers made the Patriot League final, scoring fifth and six. In the mens discus, Ben Beauchamp added nearly seven feet to his previous personal best toss, throwing an IC4A mark at the Patriot League Championships.   Prior to the League Championships, 2013 season highlights include four IC4A and ECAC qualifiers and three finalists in the Penn Relays throwing events.   Prior to his arrival at Lehigh, Thielemann coached the shot put and discus at the high school level and worked as a javelin specialist at Dickinson College, where he coached Jesse Fleischmann and John Bingham.   Thielemann earned his B.S. in Secondary Education from Penn State in 2010, where he competed as a thrower. At the conclusion of his career, Thielemann made one NCAA East Regional Championship and was ranked sixth all-time in the mens discus. In addition to the discus, Thielemann threw the shot put, hammer and weight.   He is currently pursuing his MBA at Wesley while also serving as an admissions counselor.
