West Los Angeles College Men's Basketball

Coach Jones begins his sixth season at West Los Angeles College. Jones has been named Coach of year in back to back seasons along with coaching his team to back to back Western State Conference Championships. At West LA, Jones' teams have maintained a cumulative G.P.A. of over 3.0 in the last 4 seasons. In coach's tenure, over 90% of the Men's Basketball student-athletes have graduated and matriculated to the 4 year or University level. Jones coached five seasons at CSUSB men's basketball after being an assistant men's coach and physical education instructor at Riverside Community College since 2005. He has also served as a resource specialist teacher in the Moreno Valley Unified School District, assistant athletic director and head boys basketball coach at Vista del Lago High in Moreno Valley. He was the boys basketball coach at John W. North HS in Riverside from 1999-2002 and was named the 2004-05 Sunbelt League coach of the year. He is a 1998 graduate of Arizona State, earning a bachelor's degree in justice studies and a member of a Pacific-10 conference champion football team that played in the 1997 Rose Bowl and the 1998 Sun Bowl. He received his master's degree from Azusa Pacific in 2006.

Lily Mozafari  is currently the Athletic Academic Counselor at West Los Angeles College where she works with over 300 student athletes regarding their educational, career, athletic, and personal goals. Lily was hired in 2019 as the First Ever Female Assistant Coach for the West Los Angeles College Mens Basketball Team in the Western State Conference. This is the first time in the history of the Western State Conference where they have a woman on staff as a Coach for a Mens College Team. Head Coach, Anthony Jones is a pioneer in bringing on a female coach to a Mens College Program, and Lily is a trailblazer for other women to be able to walk in these same footsteps. West has 300 students playing 11 sports, assisted by an athletic counseling office that stresses high classroom achievement beyond the recognized benchmarks. "The standard academic rules at the community college level are not going to be enough for kids to move on to a four-year school," Lily says. "So weve got to articulate to student-athletes that while a 2.0 gets you to play here, youre going to need a higher GPA to transfer." Wests athletic department shaped its student education plan based on California Community College Athletic Association guidelines as well as NCAA and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) transfer rules. Lily tracks performance via grade checks twice a semester, implementing strategies to raise a struggling students marks or maintain their minimum accumulation of credit hours.
