West Virginia Wesleyan College Women's Volleyball

Nancy Wheeler is entering her ninth year as the West Virginia Wesleyan head volleyball coach. She has also been Associate Athletic Director since 2021 In 2025, Wheeler was named Mountain East Conference Coach of the Year and her team won the Mountain East Conference regular season title with a 11-4 conference record (20-9 overall). Four Bobcats were placed on the 2025 All-Conference teams. Also under Wheeler's watch in 2025, 28 Bobcats received All-MEC Academic Team honors, the most of any institution in the Mountain East Conference. Prior to West Virginia Wesleyan, Wheeler turned the Penn State Fayette volleyball team into a juggernaut during her nine year tenure as head coach. Coach Wheeler won eight PSUAC titles in nine seasons, including seven in a row. The eight-time PSUAC coach of the year also coached Penn State Fayette to over 300 conference wins. The Roaring Lions qualified for the USCAA National Championships eight times under Wheeler's tenure. Wheeler coached six USCAA All-Americans and six PSUAC Player of the Year recipients at Penn State Fayette. Wheeler is a native of Uniontown, Pa. and is a graduate of California (Pa.) University where she earned a degree in Education. Wheeler brings over 30 years of coaching volleyball at the club, high school and collegiate level. Nancy has three daughters, Mackenzie, Madison and Morgan.  

Stanton started her volleyball career at Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School when, in eighth grade, the volleyball program started. She played for five years from middle school through Buckhannon-Upshur High School where she was North Central Athletic Conference (NCAC) first team all-conference in her senior year.   Stanton also ran track for nine years at the middle school, high school and collegiate levels. She was a part of the 2010 AAA Girls Track & Field State Championship Team in high school (the first girls state title for Buckhannon-Upshur High School.) From 2011-13 she ran for Wesleyan’s women's track & field team   Stanton coached volleyball at Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School for three years and Buckhannon-Upshur High School for four years.    She was inducted into the Buckhannon-Upshur High School Hall of Fame in 2023 as a part of the 2010 AAA Girls Track & Field Team.   Stanton received her Masters of Business degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 2015.      

Joseph Lawrence comes to Wesleyan with three decades of legal and business experience in banking, real estate, mergers & acquisitions, media, and advertising.   He serves as a leader with the Boy Scouts of America and is an avid outdoorsman and served for decades leading community development organizations in Pittsburgh’s Northside area.   Lawrence has a Bachelor’s of Science in Finance degree from the University of South Florida, a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, and a Certificate from the Business Analytics Program at Harvard Business School and the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. He is also an adjunct professor at Wesleyan, teaching Sports Law in the Business department.
