Rachael Griffith

Head Coach

Rachael Griffith begins her third season as head coach of the Western Connecticut State University women's lacrosse program in 2025-26.  Griffith arrived in Danbury late in the fall of 2023 and guided the Wolves to the Little East Conference (LEC) regular season title with the program's fourth consecutive flawless conference mark of 7-0 in her first season.  Eight WestConn players earned LEC All-Conference honors and Vicky Gracy repeated as the league's midfielder of the year in 2024.  Last spring, the Wolves won a program-record 17 games with just two losses, won the LEC title, and defeated Merchant Marine in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.  Molly Bresnahan was the LEC Goalie of the Year and an All-American Honorable Mention, while five Wolves earned All-LEC recognition. Griffith coached the previous five seasons at Otterbein University, serving as the Cardinals' head coach in 2022 and 2023.  Griffith guided Otterbein to 8-8 seasons in both 2022 and 2023 and to consecutive appearances in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Championship Semifinals.  The Cardinals boasted eight all-conference selection in Griffith's two seasons as head coach and five CSC Academic All-District honorees last spring. She mentored OAC Midfielder of the Year and All-Region selection Emily Willms in 2023.  A graduate of Florida Southern College, Griffith was a team captain, a two-time all-conference selection and an All-American defender for the Moccasins and helped them win the 2016 NCAA Division II National Championship title.  Griffith earned a bachelor's degree from Florida Southern in healthcare administration and also owns a master's degree from Otterbein in allied health. She coached at her alma mater for one season, helping Florida Southern win the Sunshine State Conference title and return to the NCAA Division II Championship game.  Griffith is a native of Ellicott City, Maryland.

Sean Young

Assistant Coach

Sean Young enters his second year on the Western Connecticut State University women's lacrosse staff in the fall of 2025 after previously serving as an assistant coach for the Wolves men's lacrosse team, specializing on the defensive side. In his first season with the Wolves men in 2023, the team's defense was ranked first in the conference, won the Little East Conference (LEC) title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament. In Young's second season, the Wolves earning their way back to the conference finals. Young graduated from WestConn in 2022 and was a Wolves goalkeeper for three seasons.  He recorded a .667 save percentage with an  8.93 GAA in his WestConn career. Young also coached multiple age levels for the Connecticut Wolves Lacrosse Club for two years and has been an assistant coach for the Bethel High School boys lacrosse team and the Weston High School girls volleyball team.  Young resides in Danbury, Connecticut.

Riley Bannatyne

Assistant Coach

Riley Bannatyne, a former teammate of head coach Rachael Griffith, joined the WestConn women's lacrosse coaching staff in the fall of 2024.  Bannatyne graduated from Florida Southern in 2020 and was a four-year letterwinner for the Moccasins. Bannatyne was a midfielder and draw specialist and helped Florida Southern win two Sunshine State Conference titles and advance to to two NCAA Division II National Championship title games.  She was the eighth player in program history to record over 100 draw controls (120) and team MVP, an all-conference, All-Regional, and a 2020 Inside Lacrosse Third-Team All-American honoree for the Moccasins, and was named 2020 Team MVP.  Bannatyne was an assistant coach at Princeton University in 2022 and has worked at the LaxManiax (Florida) program with draw clinics.  She has also been a high school official.

Megan Biase

Assistant Coach

Megan Biase joined the WestConn women's lacrosse coaching staff in the fall of 2024.  Biase played collegiately at Wingate University and earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from there in 2023. Biase was a goalkeeper for the Bulldogs and collected 520 career saves with a 9.75 GAA in her career. She holds the all-time Wingate record for lowest GAA and goalie wins. A four-year captain and four-time all-conference selection, Biase helped the Bulldogs win their first three South Atlantic Conference titles, earn their first-ever national top-ten ranking and qualify for their first-ever NCAA Tournament. Biase was statistically the top goalie in the nation in 2023, posting 6.57 GAA with a 5.22 save percentage. She was titled the 2021 SAC Defensive Player of the Year, All-Region twice, and was recognized as an All-American by Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and USA Lacrosse magazine following her last two seasons.
