Kaiao Nahale-a

Head Coach

Kaiao Nahale-a enters his fourth year as the Western Oregon women's volleyball head coach in 2025. For the third-straight year, Nahale-a guided the Wolves to an improved record in 2024 - going 15-12 overall for the most wins in a season for WOU since 2012. The seven conference wins were the most since 2016. A key win came at Alaska Anchorage on Sept. 28, 2024 - the Wolves' first win against the Seawolves since 2012 (a streak of 21 matches). In terms of individual awards under Nahale-a, Madison Hornback earned All-GNAC First Team honors in 2023 and 2024, Bailee Hartsook earned All-GNAC First Team honors in 2022 and All-GNAC Honorable Mention in 2024, Maela Honma was named the GNAC Freshman of the Year in 2024 and Delaney Smith was named honorable mention in 2022. Most recently, Nahale-a was the interim head coach at Lewis & Clark. He spent five years as the assistant volleyball coach at Concordia-Portland, each season reaching double digits in wins. He also spent time in the GNAC as an assistant coach at Saint Martin's. Nahale-a is the former high school head coach at Beaverton High School where he was named league co-coach of the year in 2015 after leading the Beavers to the state tournament for the first time since 2004. The founder of Live Aloha Volleyball Academy, Nahale-a coached youth/high school volleyball with Guy Enriques Volleyball Team Camps. Kellen Takatsuka

Associate Head Coach

Kellen Takatsuka was promoted WOU volleyball associate head coach in 2025, and enters his fourth year overall with the program. Takatsuka was a volunteer assistant in 2022 and assistant coach from 2023-24 with the volleyball program while serving as a graduate assistant for the WOU women's basketball program for two seasons (2021-23). On the volleyball side, he helped WOU to the most wins for the program since 2012 in 2024 - going 15-12 overall. Prior to WOU, Takatsuka was a women's basketball volunteer assistant at Hawaii Pacific where the team was ranked as high as No. 3 in the country, won its third-straight PacWest title and went on a 38-game win streak. Takatsuka also coached the boys club volleyball program at Ku'ikahi Volleyball Club - a team he also played for.  Takatsuka was born and raised in Kailua, Hawaii, and attended Hawaii Baptist Academy, where he was part of a volleyball program that won four consecutive state championships. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Hawaii Pacific in 2021 with a bachelor of science in business administration (minor in communication studies) and graduated from WOU in 2023 with his master of arts degree in organizational leadership.

Kellen Takatsuka

Assistant Coach

Kellen Takatsuka begins his second year as WOU volleyball assistant coach in 2024, his third overall with the program. Takatsuka was a volunteer assistant in 2022 with the volleyball program while also serving as a graduate assistant for the WOU women's basketball program for two seasons (2021-23) - where he helped the Wolves women's basketball team finish with the most wins since winning 13 games in 2002-03. On the volleyball side, he's helped WOU with their best seasons since 2016 with nine wins in 2022 and 10 in 2023 and he's coached three all-conference players. Prior to WOU, Takatsuka was a women's basketball volunteer assistant at Hawaii Pacific from 2019 to 2021, where the team was ranked as high as No. 3 in the country, won three straight PacWest titles, and went on a 38-game win streak. Takatsuka also coached boys club volleyball at Ku'ikahi Volleyball Club - a team he also played for.  Takatsuka was born and raised in Kailua, Hawaii, and attended Hawaii Baptist Academy, where he was part of a volleyball program that won four consecutive state championships.
