Rock Basacco

Basacco has also coached at the local and provincial youth level, as well as the senior mens amateur, semi-professional, and professional level with the London Lasers within the Canadian Soccer League. He currently is an instructor with the Ontario Soccer Association conducting children, youth, senior, advanced, and Pre B Coaching Courses. In 2000 he was nominated for the 2000 3M Coaching Canada Awards, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to coaching and the advancement of the sport of soccer. Rock was married to Lena for twenty-six years and has a son David, who graduated with a degree in Business Management and Organizational Studies from Western in 2011. Rock is the head of the mathematics department at Arthur Voaden Secondary School in the Thames Valley District School Board. Rock was inducted into the Western Mustangs "W" Club Sports Hall of Fame in the fall of 2000. Updated on June 16, 2016 Rock Basacco Head Coach - Men's Soccer ext. 85003 Rock is in his 20th year as head coach of the Mustangs and has had great success to date. The team has won seven OUA Provincial Championships since 1996. Rock is no stranger to CIS soccer, having reached the Nationals nine times in the last eighteen years. The Mustangs won back-to-back National Championships in 1998 & 1999 in Montreal & Victoria. The team won a silver medal at the 1996 National Championship at York University and bronze medals at the 2004 & 2007 CIS National Championships in Montreal & Vancouver. The Mustangs finished 4th in 2004 in Montreal and finished 5th in the country in 2006 and 2010 in Alberta and Toronto respectively. Rock was a successful player for Western, earning OUA All-Star honors in 1976 and again in 1977. He was the team captain for three years and the Most Valuable Player in 1977. Rock was a recipient of Westerns Purple Blanket in 1978. He became an assistant coach from 1983-86 and rejoined the team again as an assistant in 1995 before taking the helm. Rock has also coached at the youth, high school, provincial, semi-professional and professional level (London Lasers - CSL) and in 1997 completed his "A" License through the Canadian Soccer Association.
