Warren Friedrichs

Head Coach

Friedrichs has taken the experience of more than 20 years coaching college basketball and applied it to his lifelong avocation on the greens. One of the most successful basketball coaches in Whitworth history, Friedrichs has now made the Pirate men's and women's golf programs into regional powers. Since the program's resurrection in 2003-04 Whitworth's men have won the Northwest Conference title six times (2005-07 and 2010, 2013, 2015) and have played in six NCAA Division III tournaments. He is a five-time NWC Men's Coach of the Year. In 2009 and 2010, Whitworth's women shared the Northwest Conference title, earning the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III championships in 2010. Friedrichs was the men's basketball coach at Whitworth for 16 seasons (1986 - 2001). During that time the Pirates won five Northwest Conference titles and made three national tournament appearances. He was Northwest Conference Coach of the Year five times and was the 1996 NAIA Division II men's Coach of the Year. Friedrichs has played golf his entire life. He was a two-year letter winner at Concordia College in Indiana (in addition to four letters in basketball and two letters in baseball). He has been an active player locally, participating in many area amateur tournaments. Friedrichs was inducted into the Whitworth Heritage Gallery Hall of Fame in October of 2011.

Emily Guthrie

Coach

Guthrie joined the Whitworth golf program as the women's coach in 2013-14.  She has guided the Pirates to back-to-back third place finishes in the NWC standings and led the Bucs to a share of the title at the 2015 NWC Spring Classic. Guthrie was a dual-sport standout during her four years at Whitworth, accumulating honors in both golf and basketball. She earned the 2013 Dennis Spurlock Award for an outstanding career as a Pirate. In golf, Guthrie made three trips to the NCAA Division III golf championships.  In 2013, she posted her highest individual finish, tying for 12th place. As a junior she finished 20th individually at the national tournament after earning Northwest Conference Player of the Year honors.  She was the Pirates top player as a freshman, helping lead the Bucs to their only team appearance at the womens NCAA Championships. Guthrie was named First Team All-NWC all four years. In basketball, Guthrie finished her career as Whitworths all-time leader in three-point shooting, setting school records for career three pointers made (182) and attempted (526).  As a junior she broke the school record for three-pointers made in a game, sinking eight in a victory over Lancaster Bible College.  She was named Second Team All-NWC in 2013 and 2011.
