Hegstrom ran for the Crusaders as a member of the first ever Men's Cross Country team at WCU and was recently named the 2015 Southern States Athletic Conference Mens Track & Field Coach of the Year.     This past season, the Crusaders continued to build on their success as the men took home the 2015 Southern States Athletic Conference Track & Field Title while the ladies grabbed the SSAC Runner-Up Title in the team races.  The men showed their dominance taking gold in every running event including all three relays. Between the two squads, the Crusaders accounted for 24 Conference Champions and 52 All-Conference athletes at the 2015 Conference Championship.  The Carey men and women also qualified 13 student-athletes for the National Championship in 9 events. The Crusaders continued their success at the National Championship bringing home 5 All-American honors and the 2015 mens 10,000m National Champion in freshman Geoffrey Kipchumba.     In just three seasons at the helm of the Carey Track & Field programs, both the mens and womens teams have set numerous personal best, produced the 2015 mens 10,000m National Champion, 11 All-Americans, 30 National Championship qualifiers, 55 Conference Champions, including 8 relays, 104 All-Conference Athletes, 3 SSAC Runner-Up Titles, and 1 SSAC Conference Champion Title. To accompany these high finishes, the WCU squads have also earned multiple conference awards including, the 2013, 2014, and 2015 Male Track Athlete of the Year, 2013 Female Field Athlete of the Year, 2014 Male Freshman Field Athlete of the Year, 2014 Female Freshman Track Athlete of the Year, 2015 Male Freshman Track Athlete of the Year, and the 2015 Female Track Athlete of the Year.     Hegstrom is a USA Track and Field - Level 1 Certified Coach, ASEP certified coach, a member of the USTFCCCA, and the National Coaches Registry. He graduated from William Carey University in May 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Social Studies Education and finished his Masters of Education from WCU in Social Studies Education in May of 2013. Coach McKenzie enters his second season as an assistant coach for the William Carey University Track & Field teams bringing both high school and colligate experience with him.     McKenzie joins the coaching staff with an emphasis in the sprint and jump events for both the mens and womens programs. Last season McKenzie worked as a volunteer with the jumpers on the mens and womens squads and had great success at the conference level.  Prior to WCU, McKenzie coached multiple Mississippi High School State Final qualifiers at both Oak Grove High School and East Marion High School.     McKenzie is a 2005 graduate of Alcorn State University where he earned both a Bachelor of Recreation and Physical Education and then a Masters of Secondary Education in 2014.  While at ASU, McKenzie was a 4 year varsity letter winner in Track & Field, as well as, a multiple All-Conference Selection.  McKenzie also qualified and competed at the 2003 and 2004 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Regional in both the 4x100m Relay, 4x400m Relay, and the Long Jump. Moore joins the coaching staff after spending the last three years as a member of the Mens Track & Field team at William Carey University. During his time as a student-athlete Moore was a multiple selection All-Conference athlete in both Track & Field and Cross Country, a member of the 2014 SSAC Cross Country Championship team, as well as, the 2015 SSAC Track & Field Championship team. Moore also competed at the 2014 NAIA Cross Country National Championship.     Moore graduated from William Carey University in May of 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in History and is currently completing his Masters at WCU with an emphasis in History Education.
