Bart Mestelle

Mestelle enters his first year with the Jewell cross country and track teams in 2015-16 after a standout athletic career.  Mestelle comes to the Cardinals from Emporia State where he served as a graduate assistant coach. During his time at ESU he coached jumpers and multis to ten All-MIAA performances along with four MIAA Championships in Decathlon, Heptathlon, and High Jump. He also guided athletes to a combined six All-America honors in the High Jump and Multi Events.  As an athlete at University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire he was a member of two different teams that finished as the national runners-up at the NCAA Division III Championships. Mestelle was a nine-time All-WIAC performer in the Pentathlon, Heptathlon, Decathlon, and 4x400 meter relay.  During his career he was also a four-time national qualifier in the Multi Events. In 2011 he earned an All-America honor in the Pentathlon and again in the Decathlon in 2013.  Mestelle earned his B.S. in Chemistry Education from Wisconsin-Eu Claire in 2013, followed by a M.S. in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from Emporia State in 2015.

Ted Graves

Assistant Coach

Graves has been involved with WJC T&F as a team member, supporter and coach.  Starting as a member of the team from 1979-1983, Coach G was a three time conference champ in the discus, and the school record holder when he graduated and served as a team captain for Coach Larry Hamiltons team in 1983.  He was Head Track Coach at nearby Kearney High School for 13 years, winning  7 MO 3-A district titles.  His last boys team at Kearney  was Third place at the Missouri State meet.  In 1999, he became Assistant Coach/Throws at WJC from 1999 to 2004 and Head T&F Coach at Jewell from 2005-2009.  Since 2010 he has been back in the position he loves most, that of Assistant Coach for the Throwing events but also found time to start the Track & Field program at the new Liberty North High School.  From 2011-13, Coach Graves was Head Boys and Girls Track Coach and established LNHS as a new power on the Kansas City high School T&F scene.  In their third season in existence, 2013, the boys team won the MO district title and in 2014 won the MO 3-A State Championship.   Coach Graves has USAT&F Level 1 certification in the throwing events and has coached nearly all of the WJC school record holders.  Under his direction, 16 different throwers have qualified for nationals and WJC throwers have won over 30 conference titles.    Coach Graves, his wife Julie and their 2 daughters, Rachel and Meredith, live in Liberty.

Tom Eisenhauer

Coach

Eisenhauer has been the head track & field coach since July of 2009.  Tom is a USATF certified coach and a 2006 graduate of William Jewell, earning a degree in History with a minor in Coaching and Performance Enhancement. Tom received a Master of Science in Health and Physical Education from Northwest Missouri State University in 2009 where he served as a graduate assistant for the mens track & field team and in the Student Recreation Center.  Since 2009 the Cardinals have broken     After graduating from William Jewell, Tom stayed on for the 2006-2007 season to serve as a volunteer assistant coach working with the long hurdlers and middle distance runners where he coached his first conference champion (400m hurdles) and his first national qualifiers (womens 4x800m relay).     In 2007, Tom accepted a graduate assistant position at Northwest Missouri State University working under Bob Lade, Rich Alsup and Scott Lorek.      In 2008, Tom was invited to return back to the Hill to serve as the head cross country coach teams and as an assistant coach for the track & field teams.  Since taking charge of the cross country program, the Cardinals have experienced a turnaround celebrating the first national qualifier in almost a decade in 2009.  At the conclusion of the 2008-2009 season, Tom was named as the next head coach for the track & field programs.  In his first year as head coach there were 7 national qualifiers, 8 college records broken, 3 more tied, 2 conference champions, and a conference Most Valuable Athlete winner.     A native of Manitou Springs, Colorado, Tom started his track & field career as a hurdler competing for Manitou Springs High School.  Some of his high school career highlights include a 2 place finish in the 300m hurdles at the 2002 Colorado State Championships meet, as well as several top three finishes in the 4x100, 4x200, and 4x400 relays at the state meet.  Tom also competed for the Colorado Springs Striders, a USATF club, where he competed in the USATF National Junior Olympic Championship meets in the 400m hurdles and the 4x400m relay in 2001.     As a Jewell student-athlete from 2002-2006, Tom was a national qualifier in the 400m hurdles, an all-conference athlete in the 400m hurdles, 600m and 4x400m relay, and a college record holder in the 4x400m relay and the 600m.  He was also a four-time recipient of the Cardinal Scholar-Athlete award.     Tom is happily married to Ashley (Hughes 08) and welcomed their son, Caleb in August of 2013.  They currently reside here in Liberty.
