Keith Jones
Head Coach
Jones founded the cross country program at Wilmington in 2001, and is responsible for the challenging design of the Wildcat's home 5k and 8k courses at Carousel Park in Pike Creek, Del. Now entering his 16th season at the helm, Jones continues to produce talented teams that are perennial contenders. Jones began his running career as a freshman in high school, and continues to be active in local road races. He has coached several high school programs in Delaware, including Sanford School, Mt. Pleasant High School, and Ursuline Academy. In each of these positions, he led the teams to their best records in school history. During his tenure here at Wilmington University, Jones has consistently fielded talented teams, and has established the program as one that is highly respected throughout the Conference and Region. He has coached 63 All-Conference runners, eight CACC Rookies of the Year, six Conference Runner-Ups, six Conference Champions, 12 All-Regional runners, and two National Qualifiers. Jones was also the 2009 CACC Women's Coach of the Year, 2012 and 2013 CACC Mens Coach of the Year, and the mens team won the CACC Conference Championship in 2012, 2013, and 2015. During the 2013 CACC Championship, Jones mentored the mens team to a perfect 15 points in capturing their second straight CACC crown. The team went on to place third in the NCAA East Regional Championship, earning an automatic bid to the National Meet. Competing in Spokane, Wash., the men finished 30th overall at the NCAA Division II National Championship, the first Wilmington team to compete at the national meet. Jones received his bachelors and masters degree from the University of Delaware in Sport Psychology, and has consulted with local athletes concerning performance enhancement strategies, and teaches Sport Psychology at Wilmington University. In his quest for improvement, Jones relentlessly searches for innovative training methods, products, and ideas to incorporate with his athletes. Jones and his wife reside in Newark, Delaware.
