Sanocki has coached the Bulldog womens team for 15 seasons and the mens team for 11 seasons. Both Wingate teams finished second in the 17th annual Bluegrass Mountain Conference meet last February. The Bulldog womens swimming team ended the programs search for NCAA team hardware, as Wingate finished a program-best third at the 2015 NCAA Division II swimming and diving championships. The Bulldog men finished 12th, one point behind 11th-place Delta State (Miss.). Wingates men have finished 12th (or better) at the NCAA meet 10 consecutive years. Wingate junior Armony Dumur helped the Bulldogs claim two national titles at the 2015 NCAA Division II swimming and diving championships. Individually, Dumur won the womens 100 Butterfly with a new national record time of 52.42. Dumur and three teammates touched first in the womens 400 Medley Relay with a new school record time of 3:40.28. Dumur set her third 100 Fly national record of the day with her relay time of 51.99. In the 2015 NCAA 400 Medley Relay, Dumurs teammates were junior Rita Koryukova , redshirt sophomore Olga Kosheleva and sophomore Sofia Petrenko . In addition to Dumurs new 100 Butterfly national and school record (in the relay), both Kosheleva and Petrenko set new school records in the 100 Breaststroke (1:02.12) and 100 Freestyle (50.19), respectively. The two 2015 national titles give Wingate 21 national championship swims. Dumur is the third WU female to win an individual national title, joining diver Lindsey Taylor (2012) and swimmer Maria Vlashchenko (2008). The Bulldog 400 Medley Relay quartet is the first WU womens relay team to earn a national crown. The Wingate mens swimming program has 14 national championship swims, including three by 2012 Olympian Marko Blazevski . In 2014, the Bulldog teams swept the Bluegrass Mountain Conference (BMC) titles for the second year in a row. The 2014 crown gave the Wingate men seven consecutive BMC titles, while the Bulldog women earned four BMC trophies (2011-14). Sanocki has received the Bob Busby Award for BMC Coach of the Year 10 times (six men, four women). In the 2014 NCAA Division II swimming and diving championships, the Wingate women finished sixth with 230.5 points. Drury (Mo.) won for the fifth time in six years, compiling 486 points. The Bulldog men claimed eighth place with 221 points. Drury won for the 10th consecutive season, posting 569.5 points. Wingate senior Marko Blazevski won his third NCAA Division II national title in the 400 Individual Medley at the 2014 NCAA event. Wingate sent a school-record 22 student-athletes to the 2013 NCAA national championship meet. The Bulldog women established a school record with 242.5 points at the 2013 NCAA meet. The Wingate men missed a third straight fifth-place finish by three points, as Wingate recorded 262 points. From 2009-13, only two teams finished in the NCAA mens swimming top six each yearWingate and perennial national champion Drury. Sanocki was the 2012 NCAA Division II mens swimming Coach of the Year, as selected by his peers in the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). Sanocki helped the WU men tie for fifth place in the NCAA Division II national championship meet. Wingate had five national champions at the 2012 national championships. On the national scene, Sanocki served the second year of his two-year term as president of the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) in 2014. In 2010, the CSCAA elected Sanocki to this role. He has served the organization in three two-year segments. The first two-year term is president-elect, while the final two years (2014-15, 2015-16) are past president. Sanockis teams receive significant academic awards every year, both from the CSCAA and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Seventeen members of the Wingate University swimming program were 2015 Scholar All-Americans, as named by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). In addition, both Bulldog squads received 2015 Scholar All-America team honors: the Wingate men with a 3.400 cumulative team GPA and the Bulldog women with a 3.375 cumulative team GPA. Three Bulldogs received 2015 Academic All-America® at-large honors from CoSIDA: senior Issam Zeraidi was a mens at-large first team selection, while sophomore teammate Lucas Cuadros was a second team choice. On the womens side, senior Jasmine Arzadon was a womens at-large third team pick. In 2014, seniors Blazevski, Reed Miller and Valerie Dembny were named to the Academic All-America® at-large teams for swimming. Bailey Noel
Assistant Coach
Noel returns to Wingate University to serve as an assistant swimming coach. His primary coaching responsibility will be with the sprinters, but he will assist in all aspects of the program. Noel was a member of the inaugural mens varsity program and was a key contributor at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships in 2006 and 2007. A standout high school swimmer in the state of Delaware, Noel won multiple league titles as a member of the Seaford High team. In addition to his swimming exploits, Bailey ran cross country and track. Noel spent the past five seasons coaching high school swimming at Sussex Tech High School and his alma mater Seaford High School. Both teams won league titles during his tenure. Seaford compiled an impressive 65-6 overall record in dual meet competition. In addition to his high school coaching, Noel was a lifeguard with the Fenwich Island and the North Bethany Beach Patrols, serving as a team leader and patrol fitness trainer. In addition to his assistant coaching duties with the Bulldog swimming program, Noel will assist with the Wingate Aqua-Dog USA age-group team. Katie Pheil
Assistant Coach
Pheil (15) was named Wingate University assistant mens and womens swimming coach in June of 2015. Pheil was an 11-time NCAA Division II All-American as a student-athlete for the Bulldogs. Im thrilled to have Katie take another step as part of the WU Swim family, Wingate head mens and womens swimming coach Kirk Sanocki says. She was a tenacious competitor during her time as an undergraduate. Her passion, drive and determination will serve the team well as a mentor for the future Bulldog swimmers. Im looking forward to watch her grow in this new role. During the 2014-15 season, Pheil was one of Wingates graduate assistant coaches. The Wingate women finished a program-best third at the 2015 NCAA Division II swimming and diving championships. The Bulldog men finished 12th, one point behind 11th-place Delta State (Miss.) University. Wingates men had finished 11th (or better) at the NCAA meet nine years in a row. Pheil spent two seasons as Bulldog student-athlete. As a junior, she was a Bluegrass Mountain Conference champion in the 200 Backstroke. The same season, Pheil was a top-five qualifier in the 200 Backstroke and the 200 Freestyle at the 2013 NCAA Division II swimming and diving championships. She was the Wingate womens swimming team MVP both seasons (2013 and 2014). While a student-athlete at Daytona State (Fla.) College, Pheil was a five-time NJCAA All-American as well as an NJCAA champion in the 200 Backstroke for the Falcons. She earned an associates degree at Daytona State. Pheil received a bachelors degree in Sport Management at Wingate.
