Winona State University Men's Basketball

Eisner enters his 2nd season at the helm of the Winona State mens basketball program in 2016-2017.  In his first season in charge of the program, Eisner helped improve the Warrior program from 9th place to a tie for 4th place in NSIC play, finishing with a 16-13 record overall and 13-9 in conference play.  The Warriors also won two games in the NSIC tournament before falling in the tournament semi-finals to eventual NCAA II national champion, Augustana University.  Eisner has amassed an overall career head coaching record of 433-178 in 18 seasons.   Eisner helped establish an identity for his Winona State squad on the defensive end of the floor in Year 1.  The Warriors led the NSIC in three very important defensive categories: Defensive Points Per Game Allowed (69.7); Defensive Field Goal Percentage (41.5%); and Defensive 3pt Field Goal Percentage (32.2%).  His staff also helped develop junior Kyle Bauman into an all-NSIC performer as he was named 2nd team all-conference after averaging 14.6 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.   Eisner took over the Warrior program after a successful four-year stint at Midland (NE) University, where his tenure was highlighted by the schools first appearance in the NAIA Division II National Championship game in 2013-2014.  For his teams accomplishments, Eisner was named the 2014 Rawlings NAIA Division II National Coach of the Year.  Eisners Midland squad shattered the school record for wins in a season that year, amassing a record of 30-6.  In four seasons at Midland, Eisner compiled a 96-39 record overall, with three national tournament appearances and one conference tournament championship.   In Eisners 17 seasons as a head coach at the NAIA level at four different institutions, he had a phenomenal 417-165 record (.716 winning percentage) and can boast the claim of being the only coach in NAIA Division II history to take three different programs to the Elite Eight of the national tournament and the only coach to take two programs to the national championship game.  The Chilton, WI native was also the head coach at Benedictine (KS) College (2010-2011), Bellevue (NE) University (2000-2008) and Viterbo (WI) University (1995-1999).  During these 17 seasons at the NAIA level, his teams qualified for the national tournament 11 times, played in three national championship games, advanced to the Elite Eight six times and won seven regular season conference titles.   His college coaching career started at his alma mater, Creighton University, as an assistant coach from 1991-1994.  He also spent one year as an assistant at Eastern Illinois University during the 1994-1995 season prior to being offered his first college head coaching job at Viterbo in 1995 at the age of 27.  Eisner also went back to Creighton as an assistant coach from 2008-2010, working for former Bluejay and now University of Oregon head coach Dana Altman.   Eisner played collegiately at NCAA Division I Creighton University from 1986-1991.  During this time, the Bluejays captured two Missouri Valley Conference championships and played in two NCAA tournaments and one NIT.  Eisner led the MVC in three-point field goal percentage in 1989 and was named captain of the Bluejays prior to his junior year.  He graduated in the spring of 1991 with a double major in business management and finance.  Eisner also received his masters degree from the United States Sports Academy in 2007.  He is married to Andrea, also a Creighton graduate, who is an elementary principal in the Winona Area Public School district.
