DJ Neff

Assistant Coach

Bio DJ Neff joined the Wittenberg University baseball staff as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator in 2025 for his first year of collegiate coaching, bringing a strong background in player development, particularly in hitting and infield instruction. Assisting with primarily the infielders and hitters, Neff helped the Tigers shatter the program record of 41 home runs set in 2024 with 51 homers in 2025. The 2025 offense also landed second all-time in RBIs (346), third in runs scored (380), fourth in doubles (93), and third in hits (491). The defense also took a leap, landing second in program history with a .967 fielding percentage. Wittenberg ended the year seeing eight players on All-NCAC Teams. First-teamers included Parker Gryskevich, Luke Thomas, Alex Nemunaitis, Rocco Royer, Charlie Schafer, and Tommy Chilicki. Second-teamers included Xander Rodriguez and Thatcher Dietz. A native of Grove City, Ohio, Neff played collegiate baseball at Ohio Wesleyan University. Over his career, he was a 2X all-conference selection, appeared in 136 games, collected 168 hits, and hit 23 home runs, ranking 11th all-time in program history for home runs. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Ohio Wesleyan.

Mark Vaughn

Assistant Coach

Bio Mark Vaughn joined the Wittenberg baseball coaching staff in 2023 and is primarily working with the team's outfielders and player development, in addition to supporting the program through analytics and video analysis. Vaughn was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and graduated from Centerville High School in 2018. He worked for the Centerville High School baseball team as a program player helping with scouting and analytics while also earning a varsity letter his senior year. Upon graduation, Vaughn attended the University of Cincinnati and earned his Bachelor of Science in Marketing and a Master's in Sports Administration. During his time at UC, Vaughn worked with the baseball team for five years as a student manager and assisted in all aspects of the program, ranging from analytics, video, development, and equipment. In his first year when assisting with scouting, UC went 31-31, won the American Athletic Conference Tournament and travelled to the Corvallis Regional where the Bearcats upset 16th-seeded defending National Champion Oregon State, 7-6, in the opening round. The team's 29-26 record in 2021 marked the program's first winning season in a decade.  Vaughn currently lives in Centerville, Ohio.

Jay Lewis

Assistant Coach

Bio Former Wittenberg University baseball head coach Jay Lewis returned to his alma mater in 2023 to serve as an assistant coach in the same program. As the head coach from 1997-2017, Lewis broke the program record for career victories and games coached. His record was 379-380-4 overall, including a mark of 154-169-1 against North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) competition. Lewis' teams finished second in the NCAC Tournament twice during that time, and several players, including Brent Parke, Ryan Born, Ryan Peters, Steve Less, and Kurt Hartfelder, went on to play professional baseball after their careers at Wittenberg ended. Lewis, who served as an assistant coach for one year for the Tigers before taking the reins, is a 1994 Wittenberg graduate. He excelled on the diamond for the Tigers in the early 1990s as the team's starting catcher for from 1991-1993. He spent his first collegiate season at West Virginia Wesleyan. Before returning to Wittenberg as a coach, Lewis was an assistant coach at St. Paris Graham High School, his high school alma mater. He helped lead the Falcons to a Division II State runner-up finish in 1995. In addition, he helped coach perennial power Piqua in the American Legion League with Hall of Fame Head Coach Rick Gold. Lewis and his wife, Jennifer, reside in St. Paris. They have two children, Megan and Josh. Following the 2016 season at Wittenberg, Lewis accepted athletics director position at Graham High School. He spent six years as the athletic director at Graham, and he also served as head coach of the Falcons' baseball team for three years, before he stepped down to start his own business as a baseball instructor in the greater Springfield/Dayton area. Lewis is very excited to be back at Wittenberg. "I feel very honored that Coach McGee asked me to come back and help coach the catchers," Lewis said. "I love what Coach McGee and his teams have done over his time here at Wittenberg, especially last year when they broke the school record for wins."

Jordan Wolfe

Assistant Coach

Bio Jordan Wolfe joined the Wittenberg baseball coaching staff in the fall of 2025 as an assistant coach working with team's position players as an assistant to player development. Wolfe was born in Washington Court House, Ohio and graduated from Miami Trace High School in 2021. After graduation, he began coaching as an assistant coach at Cedarville High School where he worked with the infielders and as a pitching coach for 2 years. He then moved over to East Clinton HS where he was the pitching coach and worked with the outfielders. Coach Wolfe is also in his 5th year as the Assistant Director of Player Development for the Miami Valley Prospects, a Dayton area-based summer baseball program. He also works for the local tournament organization, Best of Ohio Sports.  He currently resides in his hometown of Washington Courthouse, Ohio.

Nick Wagner

Coach

Bio Coach Wagner has served as the Wittenberg baseball pitching coach since 2019, handling pitch design, development, and programming for the Tigers. Since his arrival Coach Wagner has been instrumental in the program's success and pitching improvement. Wagner's pitching staff finished his first season with a 4.20 BB/9 rate, the program's best since 2012 (4.15 BB/9), all while impressively notching 230 strikeouts, which ranks fifth in program history. His pitchers also posted a 7.99 K/9, which is the program record for a single season. In a 2020 season that was cut short after 10 games due to the pandemic, Wagner had his staff pitching at a prominent level, winning seven of those games while striking out more than eight batters per game. That season he also guided catcher turned pitcher Adam Mays into fourth in program history with saves. In 2021, Wagner saw his pitchers take aother leap in command, with a 3.31 BB/9, which is also a program record. Before joining the Wittenberg staff, Wagner had stints as an assistant coach and Springfield Shawnee High School and as the head coach of Springfield Central Catholic. He is a 2001 graduate of Springfield North High School where he holds the single school record for strikeouts with 123 K’s in 55 IP. His senior year he received the State of Ohio Gatorade Player of The Year Award, the Mizuno Ohio All-State Player of The Year, and the OHSBCA Player of The Year. Wagner moved on to Georgia Tech where he made an appearance on the mound in the College World Series in 2002 in Omaha, Nebraska. is 2004 season he was tabbed as the closer in which he had 19 appearances, 28.1 IP, 2.20 ERA, 14K, 3 SV. After his 2004 season, he was drafted in the 26th round of the MLB Draft by Tampa Bay. He spent 2 seasons in the minor leagues (Low A) where he appeared in 33 games with a 3-1 record and 3.41 ERA. In 2016, Coach Wagner was enshrined into the DABC Hall of Fame and the Springfield/Clark County Baseball Hall of Fame. Wagner currently resides in his hometown of Springfield. His family previously owned the famous sandwich shop, Mike & Rosy’s Deli, located one block from Wittenberg's campus.
