Todd Eckstein
Head Coach
Todd Eckstein was announced as the head men's golf coach at Wofford on July 25, 2024. He joined the Terriers after two seasons as the head coach at High Point and enters his second season at the helm of the Terriers in 2025-26. “I’d like to thank President Samhat and Scott Kull for the opportunity to lead the Wofford men’s golf program,” said Eckstein. “The combination of deep tradition, liberal arts education and athletic excellence at Wofford has the men’s golf program primed to grow into a thriving mid-major program. I’m really looking forward to the relationships I’ll share with our student-athletes as we build not only toward championship-level golf, but also successful lives beyond Wofford.” In his first season leading the Terriers, Eckstein made an immediate impact on the program in 2024-2025. The Terriers earned a trio of top-five results, including a team win in the Carolina Cup behind a low medalist honor for Ben Jordan, his first-career win. Wofford trailed by as many as six strokes on the back nine of the event before completing a comeback victory, sealed by Jordan’s birdie putt on hole 18. Wofford would add a fifth-place tie in the Dorado Beach Intercollegiate before another fifth-place result in the Stitch Intercollegiate, one of the two prestigious events hosted by Power Conference teams the Terriers participated in (Stanford’s The Goodwin). Freshman Andrew Aquino secured a SoCon Golfer of the Week honor in September, becoming the first Terrier freshman to earn the honor since April 2010. In two seasons at the helm of the Panthers, Eckstein led the squad to 15 total top-10 finishes. He coached a total of four All-Big South players, including the 2024 Big South Newcomer of the Year in Fred Roberts IV. Roberts earned medalist honors at the 2024 Big South Championship with a 9-under 204 performance and became the third Panther ever to advance to the NCAA Regionals. On top of leading Roberts to victory, Eckstein guided High Point to a first-place finish by 18 strokes in the stroke play portion of the Big South Championship in 2024 to send the Panthers to the match play portion for the first time ever. He also coached a US Amateur Qualifier in Charlie Barr. On top of the success Eckstein saw on the course for his Panthers squad, many of his players also excelled in the classroom. He has seen two Big South All-Academic Team honorees and coached four GCAA All-America Scholars in just two seasons. The program had only garnered one such honoree prior to his arrival in 2022. “I am proud and excited to welcome Todd Eckstein as the next head coach of the Wofford men’s golf program,” said Robert D. Atkins ’65 Director of Athletics Scott Kull. “Throughout this search process, we strived to find an individual with a proven track record of success, and Todd has shown his ability to elevate a program in just two years as the head coach at High Point. Between his time as a student-athlete at Davidson and as a coach at Furman and Mercer, he understands the importance of academics and holds an advantageous viewpoint of the academic rigors here at Wofford as well as the competitive landscape of the Southern Conference. We were impressed by Todd’s ability to recruit and develop talented players, and I have no doubt that he is the right person to lead our proud program and help elevate it to the next level in a competitive Southern Conference.” Prior to his time at High Point, Eckstein spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Virginia Tech with a focus on recruiting. The Hokies improved as much as 54 spots in the national rankings after his arrival in Blacksburg in July of 2019. Eckstein helped Virginia Tech win the 2021 Oldfield Invitational for the program’s first team victory since 2016. As a recruiter, he signed multiple top-100 players to the Hokies program in the 2020-22 classes. Eckstein coached a VSGA Player of the Year, a VSGA Junior Player of the Year, two NAA Regional Qualifiers, a Korn Ferry Tour member and a US Amateur Qualifier. Before joining the Hokies, Eckstein spent three seasons in the Southern Conference between two different programs. From 2016-19, he was an assistant coach for the Furman men’s program. During his tenure with the Paladins, the team improved 90 spots in the national rankings. With a triumph at the 2019 Wofford Invitational, he helped the team secure its first tournament title in nine years. Eckstein helped coach two SoCon Players of the Year, a SoCon Freshman of the Year and four All-SoCon selections. Eckstein served as an assistant in the spring of 2016 with Mercer before his arrival in Greenville. In the fall of 2015, he was a volunteer assistant with his alma mater, Davidson College. Before joining the coaching ranks, Eckstein was an all-conference golfer at Davidson. A four-year letterwinner with the Wildcats, he was a two-time Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-American Scholar. He secured Atlantic 10 All-Conference recognition in 2015 after being named to the SoCon All-Tournament Team in 2013. Eckstein finished in the top 10 six times individually while lifting his squad to a pair of team wins. Eckstein graduated from Davidson College in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in political science.

Vic Lipscomb
Assistant Coach
Lipscomb '70 is in his 13th season as Wofford's head men's golf coach in 2016-17. He has guided the Terriers to eight tournament victories, 10 runner-up finishes and 39 top-fives in his tenure, as well as a combined 11 individual tournament championships. Lipscomb was named Southern Conference Coach of the Year in 2015-16. The 2015-16 season was perhaps the most successful in Lipscomb's tenure. The Terriers took home two team titles, winning the Hummingbird Intercollegiate in the fall and The Legacy Intercollegiate in the spring, won four combined individual titles, held the 36-hole lead at the Southern Conference Championship, sent an individual to NCAA Regionals and saw another individual qualify for the 2016 U.S. Amateur. The 2015-16 season began with a third-place finish at Notre Dame's Fighting Irish Golf Classic (Sept. 21-22). Two top fives followed in the month of October at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate (Oct. 12-13) and Camden Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 24-25), including an individual title at the Donald Ross by Jeremy Grab at 3-under-par 207. The final tournament of the fall season saw Wofford win its first team title of the year, besting the 11-team field at the Hummingibrd Intercollegiate (Nov. 1-2). The Terriers won the weather-shortened tournament with a single-round total of 8-under 276. The spring season saw no slow downs. Andrew Novak got the season underway by breaking the program's 54-hole individual scoring record to win the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate (Feb. 22-23). Novak carded rounds of 2-under 70, 5-under 67 and 6-under 66 for a new Wofford record of 13-under-par 203. One week later, Novak and Grab led the Terriers to their second team title, as both fired three-round scores of 7-under 209 to take medalist honors at The Legacy Intercollegiate (Feb. 29 - March 1). The duo bested the rest of the field by seven shots, while Wofford dominated the field as a team to win by 28 strokes at 5-under-par. The Terriers went on to take second later in the year at the 28th annual Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational (April 11-12). At the Southern Conference Championship, Wofford held the team and invidiual leads through two rounds, but could not come away with either title. A championship that came down to the wire between five teams saw the Terriers finish fifth, while Jeremy Grab took runner-up by a single stroke to ETSU's Adrian Meronk. Both Grab and Novak were named to the All-Southern Conference Team at the conclusion of the tournament, and Lipscomb was named Southern Conference Coach of the Year. Still, the season was not yet over, as Novak earned the invite to participate in the Tuscaloosa Regional of the NCAA Championship. Novak carded rounds of 73, 72 and 72 for a 1-over-par 217, finishing 17th in the 75-man field. Two months later, Jeremy Grab became the first Terrier under Lipscomb to qualify for the U.S. Amateur. Wofford continued its success in 2014-15, as Lipscomb coached the Terriers to two tournament titles, three runner-up finishes and an individual championship. The Terriers teed off the season by winning their very first tournament, the Rutgers Invitational (Sept. 19-20), with a three-round score of 7-over-par 859. Three weeks later, Wofford took second at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate (Oct. 13-14), followed by another second-place finish at the Camden Collegiate Invitational (Oct. 18-19), one shot back of team champion and host South Carolina. Terrier senior Brannan Hudson was the tournament medalist, carding a school-record total of 9-under-par 201. Hudson set school records for low round (63), low 36 (130), low 54 (201) and low score in relation to par (-9). Just as the Terriers started the fall with a win, they started the spring of 2015 with a tournament championship at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate (Feb. 23-24). Wofford beat out 19 teams for the title, carding a two-round score of 10-over-par 586. The Terriers went on to take third at the Davidson Invitational (March 3-4) and another second-place finish at their very own Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational (April 13-14). Wofford matched the school record it set a year earlier at The Country Club of Spartanburg with a 24-under-par 840. The Terriers concluded the season by finishing fourth at the Southern Conference Tournament. Hudson finished fifth on the individual leaderboard at 1-under-par 215. At the conclusion of the tournament, Jeremy Grab was named to the All-Southern Conference Team, becoming the first Terrier since 2011 to land the honors. The 2013-14 year was one to remember for Lipscomb's program, coaching the Terriers to two tournament victories and new school records. The first victory came at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate (Oct. 14-15), where Wofford shot a 16-under-par 824 to shatter the 54-hole program record of 846 set in 2009. The Terriers took home the individual championship as well, with senior George Perkovich earning medalist honors at 8-under 202. A few weeks later, Wofford won its second tournament of the fall, taking home the title at the Hummingbird Intercollegiate (Nov. 3-5) and overcoming a four-stroke final-round deficit to do so. The spring of 2014 saw the Terriers earn two more top-five finishes, first taking fifth of 14 teams at the Davidson Invitational (March 3-4) and later earning third in the 15-team field at the 26th Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational (April 14-15). Wofford completed its home tournament with a 24-under-par 840, breaking the program record for a tournament score in relation to par of 18-under at the 2009 Sea Trail Intercollegiate. Freshman Andrew Novak finished tied for second with an 8-under 208. At the SoCon Championship (April 20-22), hosted at Pinehurst National, junior Cory Taylor shot a final-round 6-under 66 to earn sixth place, while the Terriers finished seventh. At the conclusion of the tournament, Novak was named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team. The 2012-13 squad's season was highlighted by five Top 5 finishes, including second place at the Coca-Cola Wofford Intercollegiate. Other top finishes included third at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate, fourth at the Cobra PUMA Invitational, fifth at the Hummingbird Intercollegiate and fifth at the Forest Hills Collegiate. In 2011-12, the Terriers finished in the top ten in five tournaments highlighted by a fourth place finish at the Southern Conference Championship. It was the Terriers best finish since the 2007 SoCon Championship. Freshman, Brannan Hudson finished in second place with a 218. He was Woffords highest individual finisher since the 2003 season when Daniel Sloan finished in a tie for fifth place. Lipscombs 2010-11 team finished in the top ten in eight tournaments including first at the Davidson College Invitational. Wofford took sixth that season at the SoCon Championship, while Chandler Brazeal competed for the Terriers in the NCAA Southeast Regional and was named SoCon Freshman of the Year. Brazeal and teammate Brent McKenzie earn All-SoCon Honors. In 2009-10, his Terriers placed in the top five in six tournaments throughout the season. They took ninth at the SoCon Championship as Mark Joye finished in 13th. Joye, that same season, was honored by the SoCon as Golfer of the Month and Freshman of the Year. Garrett Medeiros competed for the Terriers in the NCAA Southeast Regional finishing in 41st place. Wofford had two players named to the GCAA All-Academic team, Medeiros and Mike McKenzie. Medeiros and Joye were both named to the All-SoCon team. In 2008-09, Lipscomb guided the Terriers to their best team score in the Southern Conference championship since 2002. He directed the program to the WCU Intercollegiate title in the fall of 2006 and has coached an All-Southern Conference selection four of his five seasons, including current senior and 2009 honoree Garrett Medeiros. In addition, a number of his players have garnered Southern Conference Player of the Month or Player of the Week accolades including Neil OBrien who earned All-SoCon and SoCon Freshman of the Year in 2006. Lipscomb returned to the Spartanburg, S.C., campus in the summer of 2004 as the programs inaugural director of golf. After one season, he assumed the duties of head mens coach. Lipscomb is a 1970 Wofford graduate and a member of the Terriers Athletic Hall of Fame and the South Carolina Golf Hall of Fame. The Union, S.C., native was also selected to the inaugural Hall of Fame class for Union High School. Among his myriad of honors, Lipscomb was named the 1994 Carolinas PGA Golf Professional of the Year. He was also the 1989 Carolinas PGA Teacher of the Year and the 1986 Carolinas PGA Player of the Year. Lipscomb was the head golf professional at The Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg, S.C., from 1990-2003. Previously, he was the head golf professional at the Country Club of Orangeburg (1977-90) and did a PGA apprenticeship at Scioto Country Club in Columbus, Ohio (1972-77). During his undergraduate days, Lipscomb was a captain and most valuable player for the Terrier golf team. He helped lead Wofford to the 1970 state championship. Lipscomb has remained a successful active player through the years. He has won three South Carolina Opens, a Carolinas Open and a total of 10 major Carolinas PGA championships. He was named the 1986 CPGA Player of the Year and earned Senior PGA Player of the Year honors in 1999 and 2000. He qualified three times for The Heritage Classic and played twice in the PGA Championship. He also qualified for the 1979 Kemper Open in Charlotte, N.C., and two senior PGA Championships. Lipscomb and his wife, Sandra, have three sons: Victor, David and Jonathan. Vic Lipscomb '70 is in his 13th season as Wofford's head men's golf coach in 2016-17.
