Mike Stomski
Coach
Stomski enters his 11th year at WPI as an assistant track and field coach, working with the throwers in 2016-2017. Stomski is a 1981 graduate of Worcester State and served as the throwing coach for the Lancers from 1982 to 1989. WPI has gained recognition as one of the better throwing programs in New England Division III. His athletes have consistently qualified the post-season year after year. In 2009-2010, Coach Stomski oversaw perhaps the strongest group of throwers WPI has ever seen. He coached the NEWMAC men and womens individual champion in the Hammer Throw, as well as the womens individual champion in the Shot Put. Four of his throwers garnered Division III All-New England accolades and those same four qualified for the NCAA Championships. Due to the tremendous success of his athletes, Coach Stomski was named the NCAA Division III New England Region Mens Assistant Coach of the Year. At the 2009 NCAA championships, Stomski guided Jarrett Arredondo to WPI's first All-America honor since 2000 when the junior finished seventh in the hammer throw. It capped a season what saw WPI throwers win three NEWMAC championships and earn six All-New England awards at the New England Outdoor Division III championships. While a coach at Worcester State, Stomski had a combined 16 indoor and outdoor NCAA qualifiers, with two earning indoor All-America and four outdoor All-America. His student-athletes won three Division III New England and three ECAC championships during his time at Worcester State. As a coach, Stomski was inducted into the Worcester State College Hall of Fame in 2006. Stomski has also served as a Central Massachusetts Track and Field Official since 1990.
