Cherise Galasso
Head Coach
Galasso is entering her 17th season in 2016-2017 as Head Women's Basketball Coach, Associate Athletic Director and Senior Womens Administrator at WPI. The winningest coach in program history, Galasso team finished the 2014-15 season at 16-10 (9-7). In her tenure at WPI Galasso has brought the Engineer program to new heights. In 2012-2013 Coach Galasso earn the RUSSELL ATHLETIC/WBCA Victory Club Award as she broke the 200 win plateau at WPI (246 career wins overall) as the program went 15-11. Under her watchful eye, the program has posted double digit win totals twelve years in a row, including two 20-win seasons in the last six years. Galassos teams captured NEWMAC regular season Championships and ECAC New England Tournament titles in 2007 and 2009, when they a new established a new program record for wins with 24. She has helped guide WPI to eight NEWMAC Tournament semifinal appearances in the last nine years, including championship berths in 2007 and 2010. One of the best teachers in the Northeast, Galasso is known for developing talent. Her players have earned All-Conference honors eighteen times and she has produced six 1,000 point scorers, most recently, Elle Fontaine 11 (1,195 points) and Theresa Logan 13 (1,010 points). Galassos recruits have excelled off the court as well. Boasting a 100% graduation rate, the WPI Womens Basketball program has seen a team member earn CO-SIDA Academic All-Region First Team and had five players earn Academic All-Conference honors in each of the last three years. Overall, the program has had players earn Academic All-Conference honors 32 times since Coach Galassos arrival in 2000. A strong believer in giving back to the Worcester community, Coach Galassos teams have been mentors in the Big Brother/Big Sister organization since 2006. Team members donate their time once a week at an elementary school on the edge of the WPI campus spending time with their Littles, helping with homework, playing games and acting as strong role models. The team also participates annually in Relay for Life and the Rodman Ride, as well as, the Worcester Cleanup service project. On the WPI campus Galasso is the co-advisor to the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and teaches numerous classes in the Department of Physical Education. She has served on numerous committees for the NEWMAC conference, most recently as the Liaison for Womens Rowing. She currently sits on the ECAC Championships committee for womens basketball and is a WBCA Conference Captain. Prior to her arrival at WPI, Galasso doubled as the Head Women's Basketball Coach and Head Women's Soccer Coach at Regis College during her three years there. She also served as Assistant Athletic Director her first two years and was promoted to Associate AD in 1999, earning the Senior Women's Administrator title as well. Some of her administrative duties included budget management, team travel, contest management, pre-season and summer camp coordination. Galasso got her start as the top Assistant Women's Basketball Coach at the University of Rochester, her alma mater, from 1994 to 1997. While at Rochester, she was also the Assistant Director of Game Management, Admissions Liaison, and Director of the Varsity Weight Program. Galasso graduated from the U of R with her bachelor of art's degree in psychology. She went on to matriculate at Nazareth College in Rochester, where she earned a Master's degree in education. As an undergrad, Galasso was captain of both her basketball and soccer teams. In soccer as a senior, she was the UAA Conference Player of the Year as the Yellowjackets won their fourth straight conference title and made their fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament. Galasso won the NCAA Division III National Championship in women's soccer playing for the NCAA Coach of the Decade, Terry Gurnett. Over the years, Galasso has directed many summer camps, including the Kara Wolters Basketball Camp, the Top of the Hoop Basketball Camp for girls and most recently, the WPI Girls Basketball Camp. She currently serves as a liaison and camp coordinator for Hoop Mountain New England Girls Basketball Camps specifically for: Middle School Development Camp, Specialty Skill Camp and the High School Super Week, all held at WPI.

Maegan Cook
Assistant Coach
Cook helped lead the Engineers to the semifinal round of the 2012 NEWMAC tournament and a conference-high five honorees named to the NEWMAC All-Academic team. Cook, a 2010 graduate of Assumption with a degree in elementary education, with a concentration in history, enjoyed a successful four-year career as a member of the Greyhound womens basketball team. Her teams appeared in the NE-10 playoffs all four years, and, in 2008, the team advanced to the NCAA regional semifinals. Her basketball background also includes serving as an instructor at summer basketball camps and clinics both in her hometown of Braintree and in Worcester. Cook also taught fundamentals of basketball and volleyball for an after school program run by Fit Kids America, while attending Cal State San Marcos en route to earning her masters degree in education. Cook is currently a teacher in the Worcester Public School System.
