York College (NY) Men's Cross Country

Benjamin will enter his fifth season as head coach of cross country and track and field in the 2015-16 school year.    Benjamin, a York alumnus who ran for the Cardinals in 1974 and 1975, brings decades of coaching experience at the high school level.  Most recently, Benjamin has served as the assistant coach at Townsend High School in Queens for the past five seasons.  Prior to Townsend, Benjamin was the sprint coach at Mary Louis High School in Jamaica Estates. In addition, Benjamin served as the Executive Director of the Queens Sprinters Club from 1990-2005. In four seasons, Benjamin has made great improvements to the cross country/ track and field programs.  During the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons, Benjamin led the men's track and field team to second place finishes during both the indoor and outdoor seasons.  Already, he has been named CUNYAC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year on two separate occasions, winning the award in 2012 and 2014. During the 2014-15 indoor season, under Benjamin's guidance, field athlete Roshane Wright established himself as one of the best long jumpers in the country and qualified for the NCAA National Championship. Mark brings years of experience to the program, said York Athletic Director, Ronald St. John.  Hes coached some of our elite athletes on the high school level, prior to them coming to York.  He knows the community well and his PSAL coaching experience should help us recruit top athletes in this area.  I believe Mark will help up to continue the success weve had in track and field.   *Updated 6/30/2015* Mark Benjamin will enter his fifth season as head coach of cross country and track and field in the 2015-16 school year.
